TE 20 rear wheel weights

Are rear wheel weights available for my '48 TE 20?

Yes they are, you can also use the weights from a Ford too or most tractors that have 28" wheels...John

the problem is that most people used water ballast to avoid buying weights. Very rarely did we use weights here in UK, of course we did for some work, you just needed to. But mainly no weights, just get the tire pressures right.John

A good place to start is the width of the tire - example 12.4 X 28 would be 12 pounds. It actually works out pretty close, to start with.
Drive in the gravel, then look at the tread to see if you have all the tread dirty, you should have all (or most) of the tread on the ground. Adjust up or down, until you get all the tread working.

Normal pressure for TE20 series and all Grey tractors and 35's is 12psi, but if it gets wet then drop them to 10psi. You want the tire to have as much tread as possible in contact with the ground. It should spread out on the ground and the bottom part should be flat so that the ends of the bars on the tread can grip, it isn't the center of the tread that causes it to grip it is the outer ends and if you have them too hard or the wheels full of water they cant grip like it was intended. If you must ballast tires never completely fill them, no more than 3/4 full so that you can adjust the pressure, if you fill them completely you cant do this. If you hang a heavy implement on the back then you wont need to drop the pressures as the weight will do that. If you do drop the pressures or have a heavy implement mounted on the 3 point, you should never run at speed with the tractor on the road or the tires could heat up. You should also be careful dropping pressures if the tires have splits in the sidewalls as the tires will flex under load and the splits will get worse. But under normal circumstances you will not have any problems. The best tires for grip are the Radial ply type and they will flex quite a bit but that is normal and the grip is really good when the pressures are right.Very often you don't need any ballast if you set the pressures correctly for the work it is doing and the conditions it is operating under.
Look at your tires and if they are just worn in the center, then your tires are too hard...John (UK)[email protected]
