TE20 12V battery

I'm putting back together this TE20. It came with a 12V system and the battery is a very tight fit behind the dash. Since the tractor has new wiring and gages, and the last set was damaged by the battery, I'd like to put in a battery with a smaller footprint. Does anyone have any experience with 12V battery systems and what might work in these Ferie tractors? I was thinking maybe a motorcycle battery or ATV battery would be a smaller footprint and would work ok. Any advice?

You do not want to put in a motorcycle battery. What you should do is measure the battery that is in there now then go to where you want to buy a different battery and find one a little smaller than you have now. Don't go to small, it should fill most of the area, watch your height as you don't want the hood to hit the battery post when you close it.

I use a small 12V battery I got at Wal-Mart. If I remember, I"ll look at it tomorrow and get the number and post it. It was $45 exchange. I replaced the same battery after 9 years.

Not sure if that's the one I got or not. But, I did run over to a walmart and pick up a $50 battery. The dimensions were a perfect fit.

I can't believe a cheap battery is $50 now. It seems like the last time I bought one they were $29.

Amen! I bought the battery I replaced for like $27! Of course that was 9 years ago. Glad you found a suitable battery.

$27 to $50 for a battery? Car batteries haven't been under $100 in Australia for some years.

This battery is not for any modern car I know. It likely would be spec'd to a 1970s car that did not have all the electrical needs of the modern auto. WalMart is cheap, and regular modern auto batteries are $80 and up there. If you go to an auto parts supplier or dealer here you can expect $100-200 for a modern car battery.

I will give props to the cheapo WalMart batteries however. I've a 6-year old (or older) in my F150 and it is still going strong.
