TE20 water pump question

Changing the water pump on a TE20 and noticed a grease zerk on the top of the base where the water pump mounts. If you pump grease into it, grease goes through a channel and comes out a hole that is on the flat surface where the water pump mounts but there is no corresponding hole in the water pump so the grease cannot go anywhere. Just curious did the origional water pump have a hole and passage way so this would lube the water pump bearing?

According to the parts book the TE does not have a grease fitting. The TEA does show a grease fitting on both the 80 & 85mm.

Original Pumps may or may not have had grease Zerks fitted, it depended on who manufactured the Pump, it did vary, most had a pre-packed bearing and required no grease. It would seem that your did have a Pump that could be greased if it is as you describe. Personally I prefer having a Greaser fitted and then it is up to you to keep it full. John (UK)
