Hi
Can anyone tell me how to check or if u can check a water pump. Its a long story but anyways, the rad is full and I went to drain the block and it just slowly dribbled out ..., Didn't amount to anything so I stuck a screw driver in to clean the hole out and still none or very little [b:730997723c]..How long should the [/b:730997723c]engine run before the thermostat opens ..There is no heat gauge on it . I have a manual that explains how it all works but its more than I can grasp.

Im going to check the thermostat but before I do I wanted some opinions.

what is the tractor doing..check fan blade for
front to back movement..look for leakage..usually
the block drains slow due to buildup in block..if
impeller is worn it will boil over

Actually I havn't even used the tractor yet ..its just that |I thought the block should drain right out if it was full .. seems rad is full but nothing much in the block. I just don't want to do any damage ..Can I flush the block someway to clean it out ...
I had some problems with the hyd. that I got fixed from guys that helped on here ..thank a lot

the rad. should be filled just above the tubes.
most will tell you dont fix what doesn't need
fixing. work it and see how it goes

Hey Rodeo,
You talking about the block drain?
If so sticking something in it won't clear it, or the rad drain for that matter. Ever look at one of those drain cocks? Not a pass through hole.
Probably got gunk built up around it closing off the openings. Have you tried removing the petcock entirely? What color is the fluid coming out, clear or muddy?

Take Care and God Bless,
Roger

yes I removed the petcock completely and like I say very little dribbled out yet the rad was full ...If the thermostat wasn/t working and staying closed , that would mean no water it the block right?
the little bit that came out was prestone (anti freeze)color
I quess Ill just try and see just don't want to screw up the engine ..All comments are welcome ..

If the rad is full there is water in the block. There are enough
places for it to seep around pump fins, etc, that it will slowly
gurgle full. There may be air pockets but there should be more
than a dribble.

Put together fittings to hook a garden hose on the drain hole, take off the top and bottom rad hoses, and back flush it until it runs clear. Ideally you want it to run through without filling the water pump with goop. Were it me I would remove the water pump before turning on the hose. It won't be but half a dozen bolts or so.

If you don't know the tractor that is something I would consider a must. I do that and pull the oil pan for a looksee around.
