Tea20 Governor compensating spring

I have a question about the governor spring, what is the correct length. As per photo I have 2 the shorter is off of my tractor and the longer I was told was a new replacement. Anything longer than my original wont work unless shortened my original is not working as it should either.

First, compair spring rates. Just put one end on hook, or in vise. Give pull with spring scale, same load, and compare stretch. If new is at a rate ya like, modify eyes with your favorite needle nose. If not, find troubles elsewhere,
