TEA20 Hydraulics

My hydraulics seem to have just failed.

I was putting the bush hog away, lifted it fine. Unhooked it backed into hook up the weight box. The arms lifted fine while I was hooking it up.

went to lift the weight box, nothing happened, then it rose, going way up. I pushed the level to lower it, it went down.

I then pulled the lever to raise it slowly, nothing happened. I waited and still nothing happened. i moved the lever up and down, I turned off the PTO and back on again, nothing happened.

I unhooked the weight box and put the TEA20 away.

And here i am, telling my story.

Any ideas what my problem is?

*note* Attempt the following trouble shooting with an implement hooked up to the lift arms.
Sounds like your control valve is sticking. Remove the inspection cover on the right hand side of the tractor (the one with the dipstick) and start the tractor and engage the PTO. *DON"T stick your hand in there. Use a screwdriver and with the control lever in the lift position lightly tap the control fork forward and them tap it backward with the control lever in the drop position. You can also shut off the tractor and stick your hand in the oil and operate the control lever up and down and see if you can feel the control valve moving freely in and out of the bush. The control valve is at the end of the control fork. If it"s moving freely and it still wont lift, start the tractor and engage the pto and attempt to lift, now look out for any oil pouring down from the lift cover or stirring up the oil a great deal around the pump. anything coming down more than a drip is a leak.

I see you have a note about having something attached to the lift arms. How important is this, since I have nothing attached right now and since I have no lift it might be difficult to get something attached?

Your lift arms may lift and it will appear as though nothing is wrong if you have no implement attached. You need to pressurize the system adequately under the weight of an implement in order to find a leak. It may not be a leak, it could be a sticky control valve but you should still troubleshoot both possibilities.

To free a seized Control Valve you don't need any weight on the 3 point.
To find a leak on the system you do need an implement attached otherwise the only pressure in the system will be that needed to lift the 3 point and nothing else which is not very much. Most leaks occur under high pressure so a weight is necessary...John
