JOHN,

I CLEANED THE RELIEF VALVE ON THE OIL FILTER AS YOU SUGGESTED BUT OIL PRESSURE STILL DROPS AFTER OPERATING TEMP GETS TO 80 DEGREES. I LOOKED ON MY INVOICE FROM YT AND I DID GET THE REBUILD ASSM. FOR OIL PUMP. IT IS STANDARD ENGINE 1950 MODEL WITH A COMPLETE ENGINE OVERHAUL. ANY SUGGESTIONS FROM HERE ON HOW TO KEEP OIL PRESSURE UP. WHEN RUNNING AT GOVERNOR SPEED SHE WILL DROP TO MID NORMAL WHEN SHE REACHES APX. 80 DEGREES (ON GAGE).
WHEN IDLING IT IS VERY LOW

The oil should be SAE40 or 15W/30 (Just checking) Have you tried to adjust the relief valve on top of the oil filter, this is the long threaded screw with the locknut. Screw it in to increase pressure, set it when engine is hot....just don't set it too high. Another thing to check is the gauge, it is possible that it may be reading incorrectly.....John

If the oil pressure goes up when its cold, the relief is not the problem. This is a problem common to every TEA I've ever had. Oil pressure comes from 2 places. The main bearings and the cam bearings. If either is loose, hot oil pressure will suffer. Don't let it bother you. It takes a while to get used to the low reading, but they truly run forever like that. I'm going to look in my service manual and see what they say it should be. Use 20W50 and 2 things of STP. They love it!

No matter what is said you take the relief valve apart and check for it sticking, wash all the parts and make sure....it is the only way....and then move on to next thing if it is still giving trouble.BEFORE you think that it is anything major...John

There are cam bearings in a Standard 85 MM TEA Engine?

Did I miss something when we rebuilt mine?

If you have low oil pressure get the problem resolved, as in the end it will damage the rod and main bearings and you will be in for expensive repairs. Ask me I just completed a full rebuild of my Standard 85 mm engine because I made the mistake of ignoring the low oil pressure because everyone says" Oh it's normal . . . its always been like that". Its not! It cost me a connecting rod, a crankshaft and $1800 in the end.

Follows John's instructions as he know what he is talking about!
