Tech tip Massey 202 with 185 backhoe

Not sure if this is in the right spot or if anyone will find useful.

Here's something I did the other day cause the 185 backhoe on my 202 workbull just free swings when I drive and it seems to be a common issue. I've seen other peoples' post with chains holding the backhoe from moving.

I didn't want to hook chains up so just used few step bits from HF and either a 1/2'' or 5/8'' (can't remember size) Red hitch pin from Tractor Supply. Drilled two holes and push the pin in. I'll also be taking some engine red spray paint and paint the control lever that controls the left to right movement so I don't accidentally grab wrong lever when the "lock" is engaged.

Only thing if I had to redo was to maybe use a smaller size and add a rubber bushing/grommet to both holes so to not deform the holes.

The idea will work, but I'd put that pin into double sheer. The forces of the backhoe swinging against that pin looks to me like it'll sheer it.

Your best bet would be to weld a piece onto the framework, even a piece of heavy angle iron will work. Drill a hole in it, run the pin through the hole in the angle iron, through the backhoe, into the framework.

It'll be significantly stronger and won't wallow out the holes nearly as fast. More importantly, it'll be safer, because if you're cruising a side hill or something similar and that pin breaks, you're in for a ride.

The angle idea may not work now looking at that setup. However, it would be wise to come up with [i:a73bacd516]something[/i:a73bacd516] that puts that pin into double sheer.
