Technical complicated question

If you put a rain cap on the exhaust stack, should it face forward, backwards or sideways, or does it depend on the make and model and year. Attempting to be humorous.

I face mine side ways. If I face it forward it blows open when I tow it on my trailer. When it faces back the exhaust blows at me.
The exception was my Case VAI, I faced it forward because I could not raise the hood with it side ways.

If the engine has a turbocharger on it you need to have the raincap opening to the back so that the air while moving won't casue the turbo to windmill and with no oil feeding the bushings wear them out.

i like to see them installed properly , opening at the front. everything else looks goofy. and when hauling a long way with a turbo the exhaust should be taped shut. no different that putting a blanket on the front window of equipment to prevent rocks from hitting it.

I say it really doesn't matter, but if it hinges on the rear, there's a chance the cap will blow open while trailering, also so it doesn't snag a tree limb or something.

Traditional, open to front. If I haul a tractor, I always back it on. But I never ran one farming. My tractors were always shedded at night or when it was too wet to run, always....James

No correct way just what pleases you. As for a turbo I always just run a short piece of duct tape over the top on a rain cap so it can't blow open regardless of position. And yes they can blow open. When I hauled equipment including tractors for long distances like from Blatimore or Texas to other places like WY or FL to MN I would cover the top then wrap a strip around so the sides could not blow off even on gas engines so water could not get in if it rained while on the road.

I go with sideways also. Do the pulling thing so I don’t want to tape them every time, and they aren’t always the same direction on the trailer. Don’t have any turbos to worry about, but have had an open flap catch enough air to push the oil out of the air cleaner. Talk about a mess.
