Ted Klee Auction

Before seeing the sale prices on various pieces and complete JD tractors at the Ted Klee sale, I would have thought that the JD market had been in a slump this summer....however I think the vintage JD market is Alive & Well! Numerous parts brought market plus 20-50% more. While the crowd was large it wasn't overcrowded but folks were there to spend some $$.
I managed to get a few plow parts and plows bought, but had sometimes fierce competition all along the way.

Here are a few results:
777H plow 6x16" orig. $3750
A3 B3 two way plow with all attaching parts, coulters and jointers $700
411 one bottom plow all original for 330 $875
830 e/s all original paint, like new rubber $22,000
730 std. 4pc front weights, adj. w/f, all original $21,000
3 piece front weight set $1,750 nice original paint 4th weight pad $700
Front B2016R wheel weights $1300 for the pair
330 U restored with 2 front weights $26,000
330 S original $24,000
spoker D old repaint complete $15,500
HWH in repainted condition, but not expo quality $26,000
1st production GPO $15,500
2 bottom 40A orchard plow for GPO rusty original
$2,600
830 rice special e/s with all the correct rice equipment $14,500
730D standard loaded to the gills expo restoration new everything $22,000
NOS waterloo clamshell fenders $800 for pair
NOS 630 belt pulley $1,000
spoker D carb which sat under Ted's bed for the last 30 yrs $1,200
530 airstack (complete not NOS but close) $950!
Dubuque float-ride seat all reconditioned with new cushions $1600!
NOS H grills matched pair $1,225!
1B corn sheller super nice $1,050
NOS plow clevis G875A $155

The literature got a little crazy at times, but I didn't take notes on that.
For me it was more about being a spectator than a bidder as stuff just went way higher than I would have guessed.

I spoke with Ted at the end of the sale and he was quite pleased with everything.

The thing about Polk auction is the knowledge about parts and pieces which Jeff and Dennis have...make it much easier for folks to know what is actually being sold than with less knowledgeable auctioneers.

Tyler-Mo, spoke with you a few weeks ago about an old one-way and a disk plow I have. Just wondering if you have had time to try and identify them. Thank You, Don

Yes Tyler, it was a interesting Auction. Me and you had quite alot to discuss about plows, sorry about being part of the fierce competition..... And yes Ted seemed quite pleased.

Sure pleased that things sold well for Ted. A tremendous knowledge of John Deere and a fine gentleman. I have had many dealings with him and always enjoyed our time spent together.

I made sure I didn't take money and didn't register. Been through Ted's barns a couple times. Very hospitable person. I believe he did lose money on the HWH though. He wanted that pretty bad and maybe paid a little too much a few yrs ago. WAYYY more than made up for that tho on the rest. Especially those 30 ser. original regulars. I'm sure he saved back a few nice ones dear to his heart and now he and family will have time to parade them and enjoy .

Tyler as always it was great to see you and as we discussed they never made Another Ted Klee. What a guy! Hope to see you soon ! Alex and Chris

I like them in their work clothes! Had the correct police hit me up on a 520 last weekend at the show, they knew mine was original and were looking for differences.

Glad to hear it went well and see some prices. Had an auction for a local collector out here in MA a few weekends ago that went the other direction. Things went really cheap. He had some junk, but also some good parts and tractors. JDChris, did you make it to that one at NESFI in MA?

What did the early JD model B serial #1020 bring, anyone know and who bought it? I thought the GPO would bring more than $15,500! Was it not running? Did the Keller"s buy it?

Hotflashjr I did not make it to the sale who did the sale
Did u buy anything? Do u fave a set of front L weights to sell?
Chris

I did go. It was put on by Phil Jacquier from Southwick, MA. It was Arnie Voerhinger's JD collection. I came home with a nice MT2A plow missing 1 coulter disk for $50 and a pallet of plow parts for $40. There were two 720 standard diesels (one restored but needed flywheel for $4,200), 70 row crop diesel $3,600, 70 standard, 39 B restored with factory lights & generator $2,400. There were a large amount of cultivators, pull behind plows and some hay equipment. I do not have any front weights right now for an L series.

The Kellers didn't get that GPO because it's just another 1931 GPO. The first production GPO was serial number 15000 and not 15006. The first 6 were crossovers but they started at serial number 14994. It is documented pretty well in many different Two Cylinder magazines. The guy that bought it just has an expensive 1931 GPO. Sucks for that guy but you definitely can't trust what the auctioneer says.
