ford 2000

Tractor turns sharp to right ,but when I turn to the left it does not turn as sharp. Steering seems to be a little hard to turn also. Made some adjustments to sector shafts , that eased up steering some but no help to turning radius. Worm gear has some play also. What should be the freeplay in the steering wheel?? Any suggestions on how to center the steering???

Mission creep eh?
You don't say if it is PS or not.
Someone might have been into that steering box before and not timed it right. FO - 31 explains it quite well with pics. Easy.
The whole steering box isn't as hard as an engine.
Also check the usual things - ball joints, spindles - have you greased them? Steering sectors are available but pricey - as are all the parts for that box.

One of a few good tractors!
Country as a whole (hole?) has been waaay too far left lately.

Sorry I can't help you.

Sorry about that. Manual steering it is. Spindles and all turn freely when jacked up, nothing seems to be siezed there. Where can I find that F0-31??

I know I have taken steering boxes apart and have reassembled them with the worm gear teeth meshing with the wrong tooth on the sector shaft. Assuming you didn't do that (or the infameous "previous owner" didn't do that) my first thought would be to turn the wheel all the way left, then count turns to all the way right, divide the turns including any fraction by two, then wind the wheel back that number (about two and a quarter turns if I remember right) Yer steering wheel should now be at straight ahead, so adjust the threaded sleeves on the drag links one side at a time to set both wheels straight ahead then recheck toe in.

Is this a 2000? is it the 4 cyl.. or 3 cyl?

In any case.. the I&T manuals usually tell you how to R&R the manual steering gear.. including how to time the ballnut to the sector gears, and the sector gers to each other. if you can count to 13, you can time the gears.

Tractor supply usually has the manuals.. etc.
