temp sender unit - removal tips

The temp sender unit on my ym 1500 doesn't work. I've tested the wiring and bulb and that all works. I put a lot of force on the sender unit to unscrew it but it doesn't budge. Am afraid to put too much more force on it or I'll break the unit apart and leave the male threaded part still on the block. Got any suggestions for how this cookie can be coaxed out in one piece?

give it a good dose of WD40 or similar over a few day period and then have a crack at it, maybe try it when the engine is warmed up slightly.

PB Blaster seems to work well on rusted or frozen parts. Spray it and then tap the part lightly and let set. Like said let the engine warm up a little as well.

Applying a lubricant from the outside might help a smidge. Using temperature can help: get the engine hot, then put a coolant (there are commercial products but you could use an ice cube) on the fixture.

Use a good wrench to turn it. If it breaks off, use an "Easy Out" to extract what's left. If that doesn't work, drill out the remnants, and if that damages the threads re-tap for an adaptor that will fit the new one.

That sender has m16 x 1.5 straight metric threads and should have a copper gasket behind it. Penetrating oil shouldn't work on it. Won't harm it any. Your need a good fitting wrench and get down on it. <E></E>

mine had the connector pin broken off when I bought it. I sprayed it with wd40 and pb blaster and let it soak. It broke loose and it took a lot of force but I applied force in a gentle manner until it broke free. the penetrating oils did not get past the seal into the threads upon inspection. once it broke free it came out easily. use a long handled wrench that fits well.
