temp sensor ford 2910 tractor not working

I recently changed cluster on ford 2910 tractor, everything is working except the temp, It wasnt working before and its not working now, I tested the gauge and the wire both are good, I put in brand new temp sensor. I let tractor warm up and gauge needle doesnt move. If I hook ground straight to cluster it moves. So it sounds like the sensor isnt sending a ground. What could be the problem? Is there anything else I need to change?

The ohm ranges may not be compatible, the ohm ranges of the gauge and sender need to match. Did you get the right sensor to match the gauge? Have you checked the temperature of the engine, where the sensor is mounted, with a temp gun?

Could be the wrong sending unit.

The ohm range needs to match the gauge, or possibly the sending unit is for
a light instead of a gauge.

Sometimes they get mis boxed.

i bought both off of amazon i didnt see any of that information on there so i dont know what its suppose to be, if i connect a wire to negative on battery and touch the sensor it makes the needle move.
the sensor is the same one and hook up as what was already there

i havent checked the engine temperture but it has been ran long enough to reach full normal temperture but the needle doesnt move at all.

how do i know what the ohms are for the gauge and sensor
i hope its ok to post but these are the amazon parts i got the sensor looks the same in picture except it doesnt have the spade it has a like bolt with threads sticking out for a wire boot to slide on

Looks like you got aftermarket parts that are supposed to work together from two different sources. I don't see that either one tells the ohms of their product. I did see the one review for the sender was wrong threads and wire connector for the application and the reviewer returned it and got one from NH. You might contact the cluster seller and see if they can supply the proper sending unit(s) to match the gauges in their cluster. I always try to get electric gauges and the senders in the same kit, or at least the same company. Then when they don't work you are dealing with one source. Now you have two vendors who can say the problem is the other one's fault. The Ford service manual for your tractor might tell you the ohm range of the OEM sender, which may or may not be what the gauge in the cluster needs. the ohm reading in the temp sender changes as it warms and the gauge degree reading, or color range will match to different sender readings.

You can use a jumper wire from the bare brass of the sender to a good ground, to see if thread sealant has prevented ground and see if the sender works with the jumper. Possible, but I guess I've been lucky, I've not had that happen, yet.

yea i will try to reach out to them.

i did use a jumper wire from ground to wire side of sensor and it made needle move, tomorrow i will try to touch the thread side to see what happens i guess i should have tested it before i even hooked it up

i know when the engine is getting to hot i been going without the gauges working for 20-30 years but still be nice to see it on gauge. i wasnt worried about it until my rpm gauge quit working thats when i decided hey its timee to get a new cluster where everything works and lights up. so far everything works exccept the temp sensor i know the wire and gauge works ill test the thread side of sensor to see if that shows anything different

the gauge in the picture on amazon is the same but the part where the wire hooks up is wrong in picture but it came with the right hook up that i needed.

ill look more into it and see what i can find out its not sending the ground for some reason

Unhook the wire (coming from the gauge) from the sender and touch the end to a good ground. When the key is on, if the gauge moves when you ground that wire the problem is most likely the sender.

It reads like you used a jumper wire and grounded the gauge wire without unhooking it from the sender. It should give the same result, but I would confirm by unhooking the wire from the gauge and also using the jumper wire to check the sender ground. Check and verify.
