Temperature hole 172 engine

I need to re-tap the temp hole on a 861/172 does anyone know the tap and thread size

I recall mine being 5/8" and NPT. Reason I say that was the sending unit on the gauge that I installed the last time, was that, and I took it off a completely different tractor, (caterpillar D7). Believe it or not I could not find what I thought was a common 5/8" sending unit/gauge combination anywhere off the shelf, I knew there was one on the caterpillar tractor.

Worst case measure up and use a thread pitch gauge to see what you have, should be NPT.

There were some recent posts on this forum, showing adapters, 2 piece if you will, not sure what that was about, I always thought it was a one piece. See what others say or measure up before you do anything with it.

I did jut that about a year ago. Not remembering for sure, I have an old temperature gauge laying here. It measures 5/8" and the thread is 18. I'll leave the rest up to you
