Thanks each and all for posting advice ,its nice to be able to talk it out,and I appreciate every post for sure.

Heres what we decided for now.

For what they want to give for trade in,,we have made a decision. It may be a good one,,it may not,,but this is what we decided.

We are going to get front bearings and tie rods,,and two safe, but not fancy tires.

The mechanic will allign the front end too.
The motor doesnt use any oil,,and the truck will them be safe to drive.

Now is not the best time to buy new,,so we opted this route.

I dont always need the truck at the farm,,I can take the car sometimes,,and sometimes the truck.I cleaned up the cab,,the truck is now presentable for the wife,,,lol

She only drives locally,so the truck should be fine on days she takes it,,,and ,we have triple aa towing.

This way the truck may last a while till the smoke starts to clear.

Right now is not a good time to buy.

This was our choice,,will will see,,lol
Once again,,thanks to all!!

I prefer to fix the old over buying something ?new? if it?s feasible. Now my old 93 she finally had to go down the road she was beat to death when I traded for it and I ran it five years and it was plumb shot was like owning a snow machine and I mean it was held together with sheet metal screws and gorilla tape the insurance totaled it twice while I had it I?d cobble it beck together enough they?d insure it again and here we?d go again

I did same here hit a big hole in local highway, 2800.00 dollars later have nice tight front end under it again. will run while longer

I was up most of the night thinking,Did lots of research,,,used 4wd trucks in decent shape ,with high mileage are still bringing way more than what they offered us for trade in. Thing is,,I wouldnt sell it private without fixing the hubs and tie rods. They offered 750 to 2000 for trade in,,,If we fix it,,I Didnt see any,,and I looked and looked,,trucks in the shape and mileage of our truck were asking 3000 to 4000,So,,we will take a chance and get it fixed, its a gamble,,but so is life,,,,lol

Any replacement truck would also be an unknown unless it is new or new enough to have a warranty. May as go with the devil you know ? I would put lower priced aftermarket parts on it. Will the person doing the work let you source the parts ? The other day I think you said the wheel hubs were $ 300.00 ea ? should be able to find 2 for that price.

Sounds like a very sensible move to me. I was in a similar situation a year or so ago and made much the same decision. Now in the midst of putting into play the long range plan I made back then.
Since moving to a semi-retirement mode I only drive 10K miles a year as opposed to 50K-60K. So a year ago I tinkered up my 2005 MB that had 300K on it, and the old Dakota farm truck with 200K and stage 3 cancer, and began a leisurely search for a priced right, decent Colorado, which I was recently lucky to find. One person really doesn't really need two vehicles and we also have the wife's car so the next step is to sell the Dakota for whatever I can get (it owes me nothing) but continue to drive the MB (that also owes me nothing) until the next major repair bill is imminent and then send it dow the road as well.
