That was heavy

(quoted from post at 19:29:35 10/21/19) I got the 4' gas cylinder, lifted it in and out of truck.

Not feeling so good now, rest tonight.

I didn't do those when I was young !!! use hand trucks now. Used to work with a guy (big guy) that would squat down, stick his shoulder at the balance point, lean it back a little and (lifting with his legs) stand up, check his balance on his shoulder and walk away with a full bottle...saw he carry it from the cage to the job... about 500 feet and set it down like a sack of marshmallows..... he's older now and smarter... I think the safety guy had a talk with him too..... now he tells the young guy to go get a cylinder. :P

The gas delivery truck started slipping halfway up my road just a few weeks ago . He parked up , lifted the bottle off the truck onto a trolley and pushed it 500 metres up a steep incline to my farmhouse . The man must be almost seventy and only 5'6'' . I would have burst myself trying
After a short rest he was off again , being able to back down the road out of the bog and go on his way , he said he had never let anyone down on a delivery for twenty five years .

My chest hurt from the extra exertion.

I have a month till 60, so just not as young as I was.

Feeling better now.

David,
I bought a terramite for my 59th birthday. It does all my heavy lifting. At 55 Dr wanted to fuse L4 and L5. I refused surgery. The terramite is the only way I can keep doing this. Long handled shovel beats me up. My back doesn't like wheelbarrows.

Get a tractor with front loader. My terramite is only 3100# so it doesn't tear up yards. It can lift over 1700 #.

My brother had a cabin on a island in northern Wisconsin. The propane guy would bring a new canister every spring. Jim would struggle to put it in an aluminum row boat. The delivery guy watched him do this for about 5 years. He finally said, " You know that those float."

Roger that was funny. My torch bottles are not to bad but the two 100 lb and the two 70lb LP bottles when full start to get heavy. Seriously not to sound like Red Green but many of us are getting older and some have arrived already. You do have to recognise your limitations be it age or injury. I've got a bad neck and back from a few accidents and years driving R model Macks. I still do railroad work as volunteer and contractor. Am usually working alone and quite able to do heavy lifting and move heavy stuff. But like the rest of you I am getting older and cannot afford to seriously hurt myself anymore. The years of abuse on my body have taken their toll. Occasionally I forget and do something real stupid and then pay for it usually because I am in to much of a hurry to go get a two wheeler or use skid steer or jacks. If you have made it to your 60s you have to start using what you learned about doing things with less wear and tear on your body. I keep very active for a guy my age and very few people my age do or could do what I do on a regular basis. But all it takes is one stupid move and your done. So know your limitations and don't be in such a hurry. On the other hand get off the couch more often. Go cut firewood and stack it, just do it in moderation so you don't over do it. I am 65 which isn't old yet but I can see the horizon. I retired as a nurse in long term. I saw enough suffering in my last vocation to know what can happen with injury and disease. Your body is much more forgiving in early life. It isn't the weight it is the stupid that will hurt you. Regards, John.

As others have said, get a little tractor with a loader. Empty cylinder into the truck? No problem. Full cylinder out of the truck and to its place? No problem, with your loader tractor.

I has to laugh,I am 63,I deliver welding and LP tanks for a living. Lift gates and carts are your friend!

now that I am 71 I find I need to get Tall Kid to do more lifting.
you don't notice bending lifting so on so forth when you are younger. running track milking cows making hay working on farm equipment = two new knees in last 10 ? years believe me those man made knees work okay not as good as your onw but when those are wore out new ones are okay
