Having been there for the official unveiling I can tell you it was exciting and the Anderson family is a class act. Reproducing this giant is a feat few in this world
would attempt to do, my congratulations to the entire team. A couple mechanical gremlins showed up when it was time to plow but they were able to show us it can and did
pull a 24 bottom plow. Thanks Chad, Steve and everyone for the great visit and day. Rod.

My hat is off to all of them, they have down so much for our "brand". Thanks for the great pictures Rod

Rod , would?ve been nice to see you . I made the trip from Wisconsin . I?m amazed at how quiet the engine is . It?s not all slipped out and noisy like the 100 year old machines are . Understandingly so , but still .

A fantastic piece of machining !! Probably better than the original .

Would have been nice to have had a chat for sure, yes I am sure this machine is better than the original, Rod.

You are welcome Dan, the pics help give a idea of the size, but if ever given the chance you would enjoy walking around it. Rod

We drove 1100 miles from Canada to see it, it was worth every mile, the quality of the work and recreation is outstanding!!!

Great shot Brad, there was always so many people in the way for me to get a good view like that. Rod.

Truly amazing when, as I understand it, every piece they had to fabricate themselves. I wonder how difficult it would be to build a second one, assuming they now have all the patterns. Ever take a broken piece of something into a local machine shop to have fabricated & get the run around, then look at this.

Was the plow also made for this tractor? I assume the tractor will be shown several places. Where will it be housed in it's "off time".

Rod it was great visit. He did make it to the south end of the field after another stop for some issue. Then made a non stop run to the north end of the field. Impressive what it will pull.

Hope the video works

Chad

Good to meet you at the show! You and Rod and Ken were the only ones I saw. Apparently Brad was there as he got the good plowing shot. Impressive machine for sure...hard to imagine anything larger than a 110 Case but the 150 Road Locomotive surely is!

I don't know the answer about the plow being built specific for the 150. It looked like they tied two of their existing plows together with a tandem hitch for the 150 horse. I didn't pay any attention if it was 2 - 12s or a 10 and a 14. They said it wasn't a load at all and could likely pull another 10 or 12 bottoms.
They plan to have the tractor at Rollog MN next year. Otherwise it will stay housed in Andover, SD.

I was there today also and didn't see more than 4 people I knew. Too many people I guess.
Did you make the banquet? They served just under 500 people.

I had doctor apointements that I could not miss. Thank you for sharing your photos of this event.Always lIke reading your posts. Would be great to see how many plow bottoms this unit could pull in my Sandy loom soil. Thanks

Somewhere around here I have a pic of one pulling 52-14's. I am still looking for it 15 years later. It is a Case engine in a pic of a pic that is quite small.

If I understand this correctly they built this steamer? How long did it take to build? How much does it weigh? Thanks for the pictures. Remarkable what it can pull.

Thanks for posting this Rod! What an impressive machine it is. Sorry I missed you and everyone else here, somewhat like looking for a needle in a haystack. Don

Started in about 2007 getting blueprints together. Bought the original boiler at Geo. Schaffs sale and had a brand new heavier boiler built. Spent the last 16 months doing the lathe work and assembly. Massive amount of time and money,$1.5 million, spent.

This was truly an honor to be a part of. I was lucky enough to snag a ride on the plow platform during the official unveiling. After figuring out he proper adjustments that needed to be made prior to its' first pass (realigning of the pinions, and it threw the crank pin bearing cap), the machine performed flawlessly on the second pass. Only wish I could have stayed later into the weekend as I have seen videos surfacing of almost every model steamer plowing together - the 150, the 110, and on down the line.. I took a good amount of video of the show myself, and despite camera issues, I got plenty of good footage. You can view it here... (Get your popcorn ready). Truly an awesome event to be a part of, and a huge thanks to Kory and his crew for seeing this dream through to a reality.

As if the $1.5m price tag wasn't enough... The insurance policy to transport the machine from where it was assembled, to the Andover grounds.. Was $20k. Would have been nice if CASE IH would have come out to honor them, and to offer to cover transport costs. Truly a humbling experience being at the ceremony.

I was really impressed to see the amazing difference in size as well. I didn't get a chance to snap a photo of the two parked side-by-side, but a friend of mine did and WOW. What a HUGE difference between the two. This photo doesn't do it justice as I have seen others that were MUCH better for comparison.

I believe the first stop was made to realign the driveline gears. After things begin to wear, it is important they keep things in check. I'm no steam engine mechanic, but an old timer was telling me everything had to be kept in spec so that it didn't "walk off"....

The second issue partway down the field was the bolt holding the connecting rod bearing cap onto the crankpin broke, and the bearing cap flew into the coal bunker. If you watch my video, at 59:39 you can hear the BANG of the bearing cap landing in the left coal bunker. Not a big issue at all - they were able to turn the remaining portion of the broken bolt out with a hammer and punch, and reinstall the cap with a new bolt. The second pass was flawless.

I had an older gent tell me during the ceremony that he remembers they had a 50-bottom plow for the Case 150. This 24 bottom barely made her sweat. I'd sure love to hear it under load and FEEL that engine work.
Case 150 Unveiling

Rod,

Thanks for being the first to post here. Maybe see you at some other Case and/or NCC shows. I couldn't make this one as our own show at Farmamerica was on this past weekend.
