ok folks someone had the guts at a tractor show my pride a joy is at to tell me my tractor has problems ok now i spent over 1.5 years working on this tractor she runs like a top i love my little b to death and im only missing the shutter control knob. this guy comes strutting over and tells me i needed to do a better job well he took me over to see his supposed 1948 john deere a well wait its got a single 6 speeed tranny mismatched tires no electrical stysem period runs everwhere and was painted with the cheap stuff and they missed parts on it and it barely ran. just wanting to blow off some steam

Ignore him; enjoy and be proud of your tractor. Unfortunately, they seem to be more prevalent among the John Deere people.

Then you say "it was painted with the cheap stuff".

Isn't that the paint the tractor "wore" when new? correct me if I'm wrong, but how can a "restored" tractor "wear" $150.00 a gallon exotic paint, whose chemistry was not even IMAGINED when the tractor was NEW, and be called "restored"?

There are a lot of experts out there, at least in their minds. I just ignore them my self. I see the same thing in antique cars. They have to tell you it is not correct even if you made no claim.
On the other end, I was at an auction where a guy claimed he had an original 741 Ford tractor. He got irate when I mentioned that 741's were row crop tractors which his was not. I was not aware he was the owner at the time.

I'm going to a show this weekend, and taking my raggety old F14.

It has the wrong seat, wrong wheels, rims and tires, wrong fasteners, wrong fender mounts, a cobbled up trailer hitch bolted to the drawbar, wrong radiator shutters, worn paint, mismatched paint, rear main seal leaks, transmission is noisy, and probably a dozen other things I've forgotten or don't know about.

And ya know what? It don't make a nickle's-worth of difference when I hitch it up and use it, and it's [i:654c4848f0]mine[/i:654c4848f0] and I don't give a drizzly sh!t what anybody else thinks about it.

And I'm fully prepared to explain that in some detail to any Officer of the Correct Police that has the filberts to try and straighten me out...

Next week I'm taking my 1937 farmall F-20 that sat in a fence row for 37 years to a antique tractor gettogather. It don't have a flake of paint on it, hard dried grease where all the leaks are, but it starts easy, runs great, I raked all my hay with it this summer, I'm gonna park it right in the middle of all the bright painted up ones, and I'll bet it gets its share of attention.

crap $150 dollars a gallon thats cheap i paid 263+tax for the paint on all my stuff if your going to put your time in it make it riht you wouldnt use cheapo motor bearings that will need to be redone soon would you

You're right. I don't mean to paint everybody with the same brush. I have JDs, Farmalls, Fords, an Allis and a M-M. I like them all. But I've never understood why some of the JD folks think that the JDs are better than any others. I tell folks they are simply different different and unique, not necessarily better just because they have 2 cylinders and go "putt-putt."

why is it the person that has some of the poorest stuff takes great pride in telling anyone and everyone why their stuff is done wrong and how his is the best around and how they know all there is to know and are usually at least half wrong in their superior knowledge.
i had some bozo tell me my cockshutt 50 was built
by oliver to sell in canada.
i tried to tell him until 1946 or 48 cockshutt tractors were in fact ollies then cockshutt built their own tractors until 1961 or thereabout.
this is the same bozo that overhauled his john deere a and used spiral roofing nails instead of cotter pins to hold serated nuts on rod bolts.
some body had it in for him and and switched spark plug wires. he had one of his sons drag him around show grounds tring to get a to run.
tractor must have backfired or something bad as
the engine came apart. most people that saw that the mess kinda smirked about it and said he must have told somebody that they were all wrong about something and switched wire to teach him a lesson.
NO I DIDN'T SWITCH THE WIRES!

To this day he probably still doesn't know his engine troubles and his mouth are connected. How does this teach him a lesson? The guy that did it to him caused a ruined engine and that makes him feel better about himself? I don't understand how some people treat their fellow man this way and think it's ok, even if he is a jerk. We can all be better people than this.

No one likes the cp but here is my pet peeve. tractors at a show/pull. That dont run on all cylindes, need to be towed, flat tires, entered in pulls with bad clutches or carb problems. And this continues all summer!!!

If I had to pay that much for paint it would never get out of the barn. Be afraid some jerk would scratch it when he put his kid on it. Cause after all it's a tractor can hurt it right? I bet it looks great though Happy Deere. I am like you just can't stand the CP telling me what i need to do. It's my tractor abd I'll do what I want with it. If I want to paint my JD B red so be it, the paint's cheaper (LOL). (I wouldn't really do that.)

When I was growing up, I constantly listened to some neighboring farmers crow about how much superior JD's were to anything else. They especially directed their scorn on Fords, Fergusons, and AC's. JD's are undoubtedly good machines, but I'm very predjudiced against them for the aforestated reason. I think other makes are just as good; but just less pricey. Fords, Fergies, and Massey Fergies are my favorites with AC's coming in next.

i had a guy come up to me at a pull and inform me that the chrome stack i had on my JD 50 wasn't factory stock and should be replaced with a muffler. i thought he was joking at first. so i informed him that if he wanted to get pi$$y, he could do it on the track with a tractor hooked to the sled. well, of course, he didn't own a tractor. i just told him that it was my choice to put the chrome on there for the pull, and i couldn't care less if it was factory equipment or not. good thing i didn't bring the hobby stock! he woulda hadda heart attack!

Hey guys, Ive got 1948 jd a with ss bolts in it here and there,used cheap paint,non stock tires,ss 3inch exhaust pipe etc.It is far from perfect never will be.Also got a 830 com im getting together to pullwith and a massy harris pony. my point is Ilove all tractors no one is any better than the other just different.Ive never knocked anyones tractor. Its a free country anybody can do anything they want to any tractor they want as far as Im concerned. later Hoss

you're right i'm sure he has no clue as to what happened with his tractor i looked at it and saw the wires didn't seem right. so i went and looked at another a and saw that wires wrong as i thought.
this guy always has someone poed at him. people usually walk away from him as he is such a pain in the but.
if you need to know something he will be glad to tell you even if he wrong. which isn't often.
he doesn't have a clue and i'm sure he doesn't really know most poeple hate and despise him.
