The Farmall Cub is one of my favorite tractors! Introduced in 1947, this machine was a massive departure for International Harvester. The Cub was built for the "one-horse" farmer designed specifically to replace a single horse or mule.

Personal fun fact that I love, since I am also into Garden Tractors (See my profile pic. That's a Cub Cadet 149):

When IH launched the Cub Cadet garden tractor line in 1961, they utilized the same rear end from the Farmall Cub for the Cub Cadet. This is why I and many others love the over built garden tractors of Yesterday.

Anyone else have fun facts to share about the Farmall Cub? Who has used this for their gardens? What do you think about the "Culti-vision" with the offset steering?

The Cub & Cub Cadet are great little tractors! I have a '47 Cub, '61 Cub Cadet & a '98 CC 3225. The first two are in reserve & the 3225 is just about to the point of replacement. Most likely getting another 3225 or a 3240.

The '47 Cub was mom's & got used infrequently. It's in relatively original condition & a repaint early on in it's life is debatable. I do know the big decal on the left side of the hood was replaced once & so was the silver "IH" on the nose. The rest of the decal kit was unused & on a shelf. There's two cultivator sets with it & an unused 193 plow. I did make a couple passes with it through the garden with the cultivator. The old sweeps were so rounded, they did a poor job. Managed to find NOS sweeps & got those put on.... to never use it again. Lol!

The '61 Cub Cadet sits with a Danco snowblower. Still need to source a couple piddly parts for it to get it going. It's been back burnered for a while, due to the lack of time & necessity. I've owned 5 before that one & am not missing out on operational experience. They are a great mower that cuts clean with those timed blades. Never been a fan of the foot lever to get the deck going, especially with wet grass on your shoe. Would like to find a deck for the one I have, eventually.

The 3225 was our first new garden tractor. It was initially ordered with a rear PTO & matching tiller that never came to fruition. Too many technical problems, so CC scrapped the idea & gave everyone the option of the hydraulic drive tiller or one with it's own engine. We opted for neither & stuck with the Troy Bilt. Had we known that was going to happen, we would have gone with a new Ford - New Holland 1520 with a deck & tiller we looked at a couple years before.

The 3225 was purchased through the local Case-IH dealer, which is also in the family. It was my uncle, who ran it at the time, that delivered it & gave us the rundown on it. Knowing to keep things professional, he was in his clean, red IH coveralls. Fairly certain that was one of the last new equipment deliveries he made before age got the better of him & he couldn't do it anymore. He was still a fixture of that place well after retirement & as long as he could stand & get around under his own power. I'd fathom it kept him going as long as he did.

And they were indeed stoutly made with the Cub rear end.

A little known fact about the Cubs is it was initially proposed to use a 2 cylinder upright engine as a cost saving measure.

However, that idea was quickly shot down as it looked like Harvester was copying "other" competitors - aka John Deere.

FYI, these types of threads/discussions would go better in the "Tractor and Farm Talk" or Tractor Tales" section since it's just a regular thread; "Direct From Yesterday's Tractor" implies something to us normal users like website changes or important announcements.

Oh, and welcome! 👋

Thank you both for the great contributions! Thanks for the feedback on the other threads. I am trying to get people to look up here as well, so they can hear from us other than the more "boring" website update kind of stuff. Thanks for chiming in and for the additional history!

I was thinking the same thing. I notice that a couple new threads of this type appeared here just today. One is just a "For Sale" ad. Another about a deleted thread might belong in "Site Comments".

Just a thought.
