the John Deere 50

depends on the style muffler. My '50 "B" with original length muffler clears by exactly 3/4 ". If it's within a couple inches of clearing, just cut off the muffler that much. Probably never be noticed.

Be very very careful ! if it is real close a quick bump can make the muffler touch and then break the mounting casting at the radiator.
I remember trimming some off the B muffler outlet to make sure it cleared to go into the garage under the house. Up in my building wasn't a lot of room in my shop area but I was able to order a 7 1/2 foot door and that worked real good even for the 4020

You've been reading too much Mr. Thinker. :)

Speaking of which, according to Mr. Thinker's Almanac the max height of a 50 is 82 inches, so it should clear it.

Yep I found out real quick that my 60 would not clear my garage door at my old house. Broke the cast iron mount on the radiator right off!
