The perfect 4020 combination

That's true Mike, and a lot less Birthdays on them..But it is a good job on the installation..

Looks like the best of neither world. You end up with an old overpriced 4020 with a hot noisy cab.
I didn't see any 30 series remotes, just hoses on original couplers. Don't know where they went but maybe I just missed something.
Don't recognize the shift quadrant??
Like others, I would rather have a 4230 or 4240 for maybe less money. Quiet and air conditioned.
I have seen that done before so it's not really one of a kind. That guy was proud of his also.

I look at things like this as a "Project" and it took a bit of thinking to bring it together, it's a power shift so that worked out easy, must be a valve under the cab for the SCV's, adaptores for axle brackets,,, but it still has the basic old 4020 work horse under it....

The guy seems to know just what he wants you to know about the tractor. All these pics etc and he doesn't even know if it has air or not? Run!

I have seen a 4320 and 6030 both well done and a 1969 4020 with one that hurt the value. It showed up at most of the consignment sale and never got to $10K.The 6030 and 4320 were enough bigger in the hood area that you actually had to know tractors to tell. The 4230 and 4240 sell from $10K to $17K in our area and would be a nice uncobbled tractor. My cousin could build about anything as good as a manufacturer and at his farm sale it brought salvage price.

I wonder how the dash and tilt/telescoping was installed??

I looked at video and actually a pretty nice job of installation. The non A/C would make her pretty warm.Theres nothing like a nice open station 4020 on a nice day.

(quoted from post at 10:58:51 02/13/14) I'm going to guess everything behind the hood was replaced, and the hood now mounts onto the front of the cab.

Normal SGB removal from 30-55 series tractor leaves steering valve & dash on the tractor. Hood came close but not onto cab

Not my tractor nor was I looking to buy it. I just thought it was kinda neat to see the conversion that was made and thought I would share it. I like the shifter location and it has a different gauge cluster also. I never saw one with a sound guard cab installed.

It's not all that "RARE". No way would we have done it without doing air! That was our main reason for doing it!

There were many of those deere tractors with SGB installed everything from 300 Dubuque tractors to 6030's. They were used throughout the factory in Waterloo. smaller ones for clean up jobs while 4020's and 4320's were used for moving parts around the factory. 6030's were primarily equipped to move tractors using a three point carrier. Especially in the when the steel wheels wouldn't move the tractors in the snow and ice. Deere offered these tractors to dealers by silent auction. Some dealers would bid for there customers. They were horrible to find parts for since they were fixed or built from parts of most anything. They sure had the best of their life used up by the time they were sold.

That's a nice job Bert,, I put lots of new Year Round cabs on back in the day,, they were better than nothing, but not by much...This is a "much" better set up....and as some say it may be better to trade up,, but these are good dependable units and with the good cab they are even better...

Thanks Tim. At the time we couldn't afford to trade up. This tractor had a new motor and we had went through the rear end so we knew we had a good tractor. Our main focus was the ac and heat "comfort". We also did not cut the tractor up with a days worth of work it could be back to a nice original 4320. We used a early 4630 cab with no firewall/steering/dash. Really simple install. Only thing we had to do was adjust the hydraulic control rods about a 1/2" and make a diff lock pedal

JDbert that's one of the 4320s I was referring to as it looks very nice.Intersting about factory adding the cabs for use at factory although TimS. had mentioned seeing them .The 4020 in question being a 1968 would not have castings on block for A/C and not side counsel so two problems to solve .I have seen them on 7520s also that were nice. The problem unless it is for your own use anything that is not factory even if much better usually doesn't bring any premium and can be discounted.Nice originals are still rewarded.Worn out equiptment bring about what it should.A nice 4320 will usually outsell a 4430 and I know which is nicer to operate.
