Theft protection

A lot of agri machinery being stolen around us.

Any ideas on how to simply imobilise a YM1610 so it is harder to steal?

Ideally I'm looking for something simple that can be quickly got around for daily use.

For other vehicles I would do something electical like a hidden kill switch but as the fuel pump is mechanical (I think) a jumper cable to the starter motor is presumably all that is needed to drive away.

Fuel line? Air intake?

It sort of depends on if you are just trying to keep the honest person honest (like a deadbolt on a sliding glass door) or are you trying to stop a highly motivated thief? If you are just trying to keep everyone honest then just a padlocked section of chain ran through the steering wheel turned all the way to one direction might work or maybe even just chain the rear wheel to a big tree.

If you are trying to stop a professional thief then that gets much harder- especially if it is in an area where they can just winch it onto a trailer and be gone. Even locked sheds are really pretty easy to get into.

I, personally, use very visible outdoor PTZ security cameras and motion detectors that you can hear from outside. Just to let visitors know they are being noticed. When I'm away I get a text message every time anything moves on my property.

Thanks for the replies. It's in a locked shed and I have some cameras, lights etc. to install - not a quick or easy job as we have no power on site. Luckily it's very difficult for someone to bring a 4x4 & trailer close to the shed - the tractor squeezes out with inches to spare and I plan to strengthen this 'vehicle perimeter' with some bollards.

Unfortunately we live some distance from the site so the tractor sits unattended. It's very vulnerable to someone squeezing into the shed via a weakspot and then using the tractor itself to smash a way out.

My immediate plan is to throw on a couple of serious chains and padlocks - one around the frame and bolted to the floor and another perhaps (as you suggest Aaron) through the steering wheel.

Could it harm the tractor in anyway parking with the steering on full lock?

Watching this thread as I have kind of the same thing going. I wont always leave the tractor at my other site but some times it would be nice to not drag it back and forth.

No... should not hurt anything.

I think the big key on security at remote locations is just to let 'visitors' know/think that someone is always watching. If it is a remote location without neighbors close by then I'm not sure how much help chains and locks will really be. A determined thief can cut those pretty quickly with a cordless saw or grinder.

I have a few 'Game Cameras In Use' signs around a very remote piece property that I use. I bought a few cheap game cameras on ebay and put a couple out in the open where they were obvious and another one hidden a little better. I haven't put new batteries in them in a couple years but I think they still act as a pretty powerful deterrent.

Thats a good point Aaron, there are game cameras that can utilize cell service, they will send you a pic/vid when they see something, in fairly real time.
