thermometer

I had to get a new gas furnace i already had a digital thermostate
I wanted a thermometer to put in basement. I looked at Walmart they had a whole bunch of them. Meat, candy, indoor, refrigerator, and none of them read the same. And they were all sitting in a 20 ft area. What do you have to do. To get a good one.

Hello davyfireball,

Guido are you going to tell me where to put it to get a accurate inside temp . Ha ha ha ha

Hate to tell ya but close enough is going to have ta do. This is a VERY
accurate thermometer and is close to $100.oo. I have several for real mercury
thermometers but they are over 25 years gone from the market. Have a couple of
Trerce industrials that are fantastic and Very accurate. These can run from 30
to 100 on Ebay. Make sure you very carefully read the scale. Zero to 100 or
close to that is what you want. I have several of them in my house. When you
buy 9ne of these you can calibrate almost anything else. Full rolling boil
water at sea level is 212?f. After you get one calibrated then after it cools
to room temp you can carefully reset anything else. Been doing it for years.
Remember MERCURY is the most accurate.

Hello davifireball,

Yes I can. Put it out of a draft. By the way most El cheapo
HF infrared are close enough for what you need. You then will
have a use for it elsewhere as well. I chose to ignore the
alluded remark! HE HE...

GUIDO.

Automotive parts store, or even Walmart will have one. The one in our kitchen has been there for 17 years. I think everyday it will
need new batteries, but not yet.

I drove thru town one night, just to see what the temperature was at the bank. One block further it was seven degrees warmer. The next day they both had the same
temperature. Go figure.

I have a couple similar to this one. Have them upstairs and down by the furnace. They show temperature and humidity and work quite well and are only around $10. AA battery lasts
forever.

In automotive we use thermometers that are adjustable for calibration purposes. There is a nut on the gauge end of the stem. You put the thermometer in ice water and turn the nut until it reads 32*. They have some with big dials too.

I have an indoor/outdoor thermometer from Wal-Mart. It is consistent, and I'm happy with it, but very rarely does it agree with the weather app on my smart phone, which gets information from about 12 miles away.

A man that has a clock always knows what time it is. A man with two clocks never knows what time it is.

Thermometers are like clocks.

A man that has a thermometer always knows what the temperature is. A man with two thermometers never knows what the temperature is.

On the thermometer you show, note the red circle near the bulb end. The circle indicates the immersion depth for the most accurate reading. Yes, I agree that type of thermometer is accurate but it needs to be used correctly.

Are you sure you wern't reading the temp and other info. printed on the wrapper, covering the display face.
Many digital thermometers have a piece of tape disabling the battery that needs to be removed when
activated.

That is why I have several mercury types. If you stick them in boiling water at sea level they should be spot on at 212?f. Just some of my collection.
