Thermostat install

Does thermostat go in before gasket or after gasket. The pic is blow
up of thermostat and show I put it in backwards but the groove that it
fits in is in top part

Therm0ostat sits in a little lip area and then the gasket. Sometime you need to clean the lip area so it sit down like it should

It there a groove in one part or the other for the thermostat to rest in? You might have mentioned what model you are working on.

Working on a 706 IH gas

Took it back apart no lip in bottom part only top part. When I took it apart gasket was on bottom thermostat on top of that opposite of pic

On some the thermostat does go into the top part and most in that case have a sticky type gasket so you put it in the top part then put the gasket on so the sticky side goes to the top and hold the thermostat in place

the thermostat fits in groove in the top housing with spring to the bottom. the gasket goes under the thermostat not as shown in picture. picture is not correct!

Well what I did was use a little grease put thermostat in top part dab a little of grease on gasket and installed. Talk to IH dealer he said put thermostat in grove then down on gasket this was how it was when I took it out so we will see when I fill it up and run it thanks

better correct myself, gas is 263. just remembered about 706.
