Do you think it would be possible to install thermostat on 8N without removing the hood?

lee........YES, especially iff'n you use NEW FLEXIBLE radiator hoze. Cut the OLD hoze off. New hoze is cheap. Remember pointy end toward the radiator .........Dell

The top clamp would be a bugger. I have thought about the same thing but always took the hood off as I told myself by the time ya poke a hole in the radiator with the screw stick????????? Naw!!.Drain the gas tank and undue gas line sed bowl lights wireing if so equiped and get a helper to take the hood off. Now remove and check the gas tank while its off and it would be a good time to Kreem the inside if you want or need cause they do rust too.The hoods also rusts from the inside out on the protrutions where dirt and moisture collect,clean it out. I would also put a new top and bottom hose on and get the old anti-freeze out and take a look at it cause ya got to drain some out anyway.Thats what I would do.Im sure I forgot something but there are a lot of ideas on this forum so wait and see whatelse you get for suggestion . can be done.. might loose a lil excess hand skin and curese a bit.. but for sure doable.

use a stubby screwdriver or 1/4 drive ratchet for clamp.. depending on style..

I did last spring. It was a B*(&^ and lost some skin, blood and temper. But it worked.

Britcheflee, I'm with you on this one. I just finished a rebuild on my engine. I wanted to run mine a good bit with radiator flush in it before I installed the thermostat. Actually I plan on flushing it several times before I install the thermostat and new antifreeze. I decided to go ahead and install the hood. My plan is to assemble the hose so all I'd have to do is install the top and bottom clamps. Hopefully I can use a very long extension, swivel, and socket for the top.

I had no problem. Just take the hose lose from the engine and stick the thermostat pointed end first into the hose, I put a piece of plastic strap on it to make sure the thermostat doesn't move and put the hose back on the engine. Only took a little while to do it. Gene

Above thermostat - Water flow shoves the thermostat towards the radiator.

May consider using a metal hose clamp as the tywrap could fail due to heat.

Lee.......where do you think you should strap the thermostat??? .......between the thermostat and the radiator tank........sheesh, respectfully, Dell
