Hello all.. I would like to ask you Jubilee owners out there what degree thermostat are you
running.I fired mine up after engine rebuild new water pump new 160 thermostat and new gauge. Ran it
for well over an hour with water as coolant and the temp needle would only go into the green at idle
once the rpm was increased the needle would go back to the yellow it seemed very erratic. You guys
think that I need a hotter stat. Or am I missing something here...Thanks everybody.

Don't know what to tell you. When I first got my Jubilee,(around 1972) it was in pretty bad shape. Had to replace a lot of missing parts including the temp gage as it was broken. Got a new gage from a Ford Tractor dealer in the area and it was junk. Don't remember exactly what was wrong with it but the dealer replace it for me no charge. So don't discount a defective gage. Are you sure you installed the thermostat in the correct direction. The by-metal spiral should face toward the engine block. Don't know if you would even get a reading with it in backwards, but it is worth considering. I am running a 160? thermostat and a 50/50 water/antifreeze mix. Thermostat still working, but Ford dealer closed down years ago. I live in NE Ohio

temp gauge will read coolant temp no matter what direction the thermostat faces, or if there is no thermostat installed.

I run a 180 degree stat with no issues in my 1953 NAA Jub as well. Either the stat is in stalled backwards or it is not circulating the coolant correctly.

Located in Delaware county (Ostrander area) Ohio as well.

I don't know if this will be any help, but my NAA doesn't have colors on the gauge, just numbers. It will run up to 140 fairly quickly while loafing around, but when He goes to work it will run up to between 160 and 170, depending on the ambient temperature. I've never had the stat out, so don't know what it is for sure.

I think that if your thermostat were in backwards, the engine would actually be running hotter, rather than running too cool, because the activating pellet and spring need direct contact with the hotter water in the head, so that the thermostat opens according to its rating, letting the excessively hot water into the upper hose and rad.

no thermostat. Bought tractor without thermo in it. Wanted it to be 'right' so I put one in and blew the head gasket. In my opinion, the inline diameter of the orifice restricts water flow. I have run it for years without the thermostat in South Carolina summers and in not so cold winters, zero issues. The 4 psi cap allows the water to get readily warmed up. I run a 4 PSI including in the summer. Periodically 1/4 to 1/2 turn head bolts in the correct order. I put a new head on 2 years ago and have snugged the bolts 5 times- they always come loose even with thread sealant. If you are overheating try tightening the head gasket. If the gasket is intact and just blowing between the gasket and head the tightening could solve the heating issue.

I Could not find a place to post part info for 2N,8N,9N 4 psi radiator caps so I am posting direct fit Stant and Murray radiator caps available at most auto part stores and Amazon for half the price of "OEM" style and Tisco parts. 7 PSI: Stant 10228; Murray 7007. 4 PSI Stant 10281; Murray 7004.
