ok i got a TO 30. I bought the correct thermostat and i kind of need to know which end goes toward the tractor. Iam thinkin that the thermostat goes in the upper part of the top rad. hose. THanks

Pointy end towards the radiator.
Flat bottom to the engine.
1/2 way up/down the hose.
Upper type.
Hose.
1 ea.
It's tooo late.

I put a hose clamp on the part of the upper radiator hose to hold the thermostat in place. I used to get a lot of pressure in the upper hose to engine after shut down. I would hear the antifreeze rush through the hot engine a few minutes after shutdown. I think the heat of the motor caused this. So I have drilled a few 1/8 inch holes in the end of the thermostat.( radiator end), and it cured that problem. I have a temperature meter so I can see that the motor is at a good running temperature. After using the tractor I also run the tractor a few minutes to cool it down.

Hey Bruce i thought the pointy end had the sensor to open so that end should be near the heat source but i been wrong before. Thanks for setting me straight.

Very nice idea since the original 8N upper hose came with a clamp around the T-stat.
Water flows from the engine through the thermostat up the upper hose and dumps into the top of the radiator. Then cools as it moves to the bottomof the radiator and is pumped up into the engine and back into the upper hose again.
You might desire your stat to be places appropriately.

It does fit in the Top Hose just as you thought.
The bellows part goes towards the Engine as that is what gets hot to open the Thermostat. If you fit it the other way it may overheat...John(UK)
