Thermostats

Anybody got any idea why the 'slide-in-the-hose' TO30 thermostat would be $30+ and the 'flange' thermostat for the TO35 would be $11+ on this site? Why the big difference? Actually, the real question is why is the thermostat for the 30 so expensive. The MF official part number dealer price is $53!! (Although my MF dealer sells an after market version for $28.) I think the answer may be that the 35 thermostat fits something else as well; just a guess, as I seem to recall it is used in at least one auto. I know of nothing else that uses the slide in thermostat. Any comments?

My TE20 #28383 uses the slide in type also.
I found one at a local tractor dealer for c.$22 plus tax, USD.
At the Massey Ferguson dealer it was c.$48 plus tax!
He claims his is U.S. made and the so-called "cheap ones" are made in China.
That"s about all I know about this subject.

I cheated. I bought my slide in hose for about $4.00

For that price I got 4 of them. A bit different design and they will be held in place by an external clamp on the outside of the hose. Just like the OEM on my 8N.

I bought one a rural king for around $30 to then i looked on E-bay and found some alot cheaper on there. I wish i would have looked there first. I have bought alot of parts off E-bay for my tractor and have had better luck with prices on there.

All the Ford 9ns and 8ns use the same slide in style thermostat. If you look in the parts store on this site the thermostat has the same part number for the TO30 and the Fords. Not sure why the price is what it is on this site. Took a quick look on a popular Ford parts site and the thermostat there was $23 for the N series.

Phil, I think there is a smaller number of uses and therefore less demand for the slide in type thermoststs then there is for the flange type so they are naturally more expensive.

Well I installed my $28 thermostat, which was in a Ford N box, replaced the radiator drain plug ($3), which was non functional, and reinstalled the radiator, filled with the proper mix, and all is well. Then I reinstalled the loader on the tractor. Oh yeah, what I began in December was a project to convert this tractor to 12 volts. Got that done too. Finally back in service. Starts and charges good, loader works fine, thermostat works. Only took two months. LOL.
