This is so true.

Ahh I somewhat disagree. People are different. While many people could do it most people wouldn’t do it.
I was a huge fan of Paul Harvey, but that was a Super Bowl commercial for Ram Trucks. I was watching when it aired. Yes, I was a little flattered, but the whole purpose was to try to sell me something.

I was at a meeting one time of an ag origination that I was a member of. They let a politician speak to us. He spent the whole time telling us how great we are and that the whole world revolves around us. It was so sugary, sappy sweet that I about puked. A five year old would have recognized how condescending it was and that he was being talked down to.

But, tell somebody how great they are and in their humility, they'll think you're the real hero.

Trust me, I've known a LOT of people over the years who've farmed and were NOT good people.

What if this politician really thought highly of you guys? Would be unfortunate to let pessimism rob someone’s gratefulness. There are people in certain lines of work that I truly do appreciate. Maybe just a job I wouldn’t want to do and am thankful that someone is willing to provide the service. Without a doubt there are many farmers that aren’t good people but I don’t think the video was implying that all farmers are.

They're kids. I get irritated with platitudes. We're no different than anybody else. We're human. Farming is what we do, not who we are. I'm not a stereotype.
I'm sorry but I don't agree I think the farmers I grew up with wouldn't agree either they would say a farmer is not just what they do but who they are, they would say that they are stewards of the land gifted to do what they do. Now maybe they have to be more business managers than they used to be the work is somehow a little different than it used to be not quite so hands on as it was before

Go ahead and be as flattered as you want to be. I don't need my ego stroked. I know who I am beyond being a farmer. I know plenty of folks who deserve a lot more respect than I do, because of the person they are, not what they do or did for a living. I don't deserve to carry their luggage.

I'm not so stupid that I don't know when I'm being hustled. If you want to give me credit for something that I'm good at as a farmer, it's that I haven't lost everything I own to a crooked salesman.

So God Made a Farmer" was a speech given by radio broadcaster Paul Harvey at the 1978 Future Farmers of America convention. The speech was first published in 1986 in Harvey's syndicated column
A speech written to inspire kids to be the best. Not a thing in the world wrong with that. The video was from a Ram Truck Super Bowl commercial though. I'm sure it would have been long forgotten if not for that commercial.

I know a local radio show plays the audio of the speech, the version that was aired on the Paul Harvey News and Commentary show, about once a year and have been doing it for decades. I didn't bother to watch the video because I have heard the whole commentary so many times. I didn't know which version was posted.

The book says man is to be a good steward of the land; to me that is the definition of a farmer.
Only of the land?? I knew a farmer that had a livestock truck and was taking he deacon calf to the sale. His Mom asked him to take her Veal calf. He did and when he brought the check back for his Mom , it was for the deacon calf. But he was a farmer of the land...
