This is so true.

Paul Harvey was before reporters turned in to journalists. Reporters report news, Journalists make up news_IMO.
I get tired of their picking up on something and making a big deal about it for awhile....beat it to death....and the next thing you know, that "crisis" has disappeared and a new one is headlines. The other thing is trying to get useful information without politics tilting the answers. I can understand that reporting on something factually that is opposite to the reporter's personal or employer's way of thinking isn't easy. When I have something to sell, I catch myself glossing over the bad parts of what it is if I mention them at all.

If you think Paul Harvey was a reporter or that he wasn't political, you didn't know him at all. He was a conservative commentator before Limbaugh. He would have married Ronald Reagan if he could have. He reported the news on a five minute show at 8:30 am and a fifteen minute show at noon. There was never any attempt to claim it was just news, it was called Paul Harvey News and Comment. He added his opinion in to almost everything. Saturdays at noon, he did a fifteen minute show that was commentary and not news. He had a weekly newspaper column as well. I remember one in particular titled "To H311 with the professional poor."

Before the 1980 election, he did a commentary where he was speaking directly to Jimmy Carter. He was showing him no respect, I'll tell you that much. He kept addressing him as Mr President in a tone that sounded like he was asking, You are the president aren't you?

He started going off the reservation though, when his son got him in to raising money for some retired performing animals fund. Over time he went full blown animal rights activist. It even strained his close relationship with his fellow Chicago broadcaster, ag broadcaster Orion Samuelson.

I considered Paul Harvey half entertainer (comedian) and half preacher, most people took him with a big grain of salt.

On Jimmy Carter running for, and winning the presidency, I always wondered how a peanut farmer from Georgia made it to the top. Not long ago there was a documentary about him and he wasn't anybody's puppet. He decided he wanted to be president and got busy and got out and made himself known.....apparently he won on his own efforts. I didn't vote for him for the record and it was easy to see the reason for Paul's feelings and attitude towards him.

I always thought that Jimmy was a do nothing president, then a remembered that he gave away the Panama Canal.

He also let out the secret on our first stealth fighter..I saw the news release, and had some overseas things with which I doubt he was proud.

An excellent example is this missing Guthrie woman. Everything they say is speculation, not facts. Nothing new has been discovered and proven since day 3. I even doubt the doorbell video. A planned disablement of the camera might go like this; Approach the doorbell quickly with an Led flashlight trained on the camera, have a piece of duct tape handy to slap over the camera, instead of moving in slow-motion to pick flowers and see if they will blind the camera. A person would have to either be an idiot or acting out a planned diversion.

Carter was going to win no matter what. Remember, that election wasn't very far removed from Watergate and Nixon's resignation so I think it didn't really matter who ran against Ford. 4 years later 44 states decided he wasn't the right man for the job. Not a political statement, just historical fact.

Like everyone else on TV or the radio.
He said what sold to sponsors.

Farmers
Just another group that complains about how little they make and how much work it takes to earn that money. Yet come spring they will be right back out there doing the job in the same way they have for many years.
Well sir, gonna bet you are right there with the group as I am. Just gets in your blood and you can't help yourself. I have this years fertilizer in the barn, bought it last fall to get a better price, and as soon as forecasters say that rain is imminent, out it goes for this years crops. If it wasn't for depreciation, I'd have a good contribution to Uncle Sugar's bank account............
