Three Ohm Resistor

I have a 48N 12 volt system with Electronic Ignition.I replace the ballast resistor appox 2 yrs ago with a one and two ohm in series. With key on the draw is two amps.I would like to replace the two in series with one three Ohm.This site lists a three ohm resistor. When I called and asked If three Ohm was listed on the box,the answer was no.Below is the resistor in Question.Any information on where I can purchase a three ohm resistor will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Resistor - For 2N, 9N, 8N, and 4 cylinder engines on 600 - 4000 tractors 1955-1964. Used in ignition system, resistance = 3.0 ohms. (Part No: 8NE10306)

When I installed EI on my '48 8N, I moved the 12v wire to the coil back in the circuit to by-pass the two resistors. It was a new round 12 volt coil and no resistor was needed. It's worked fine. I left the resistors in place as they were so I can quickly go back to points if the EI should fail, they're just not connected.

imho.. that 8ne10306 is NOT 3 ohms... it might add to 3 ohms stacked with a coil or stacked with a ballast resistor and coil.. :) last one I had that was purported to be a 8ne10306 perhaps from a tisco dealer was .5 ohms

Better measure any resistor before installing. The 8ne10306 resistors from most places are junk, they measure all over the place.IMHO don b

I am not surprised by your measurement results. Measuring resistances in the 3 ohm range with a common ohm meter is problematic - the instrument and test leads can't measure them accurately. To get an accurate resistance value you need to use something like this 4 wire test setup with an ammeter and voltmeter and then use Ohm's law to indirectly calculate the resistance from those values. Keep in mind that schematic is close to a short circuit for small R[size=7:051577db5b]subject[/size:051577db5b] values so use an ammeter and current source of suitable capacity.
