Three point stump grinder

The primary thing to assess is how the grinder is moved, left and right, forward and back. The up and down is obvious. If using it on 2 or three, driving the tractor to make those moves is just OK. tow behind have those as hydraulic lever control, very easy to do a slick job. Carbide teeth should be mounted such that they cannot escape, and should be robust. The gear box should be designed for the power handling needs. Jim

I have been looking at the Woodland Mills one. It has no side to side movement but looks adequate for my needs. I am interested in other ones in that price range tho' (2-3K),

I built one a couple years ago, used a brush hog gearbox, the video is a small stump but have done up to 4ft stumps which obviously require repositioning a few times. Works well but wouldn't want to be with any less hp than the 50 I have. Also requires two remotes for depth and swing.

Baumalight has a similar outfit, and swinging models too. There's also a swinging model by Quick Attach that will cut BOTH directions, not one way like most do. Not sure how fancy/expensive I want to go..

Looks neat! Only thing I would add is a needle valve to slow down side swing. What did you use for wheel cutting teeth? I have two scrapped mowers, one might have a good gearbox.

I did add a valve later, this was very early on after I built it, the teeth and pockets as they call the holders are greenteeth 1100 series, the disk I machined from 1 1/4 steel. Also as time went on I found it cuts smoother one direction than the other due to the torque of pto making it chatter or bite

Mark, it looks like you could get better depth control if you were to remount your top link point 3-4 inches higher so that the movement of the top link translated to less movement of the wheel.

I wouldn't have enough depth with the
cylinder travel, biggest problem in
that video was I was new to using it!
That was taken a few years ago

I have a Miller Pro150 (they have been sold) needs 3 remotes,up/down,side to side, extend and 100-150hp 1000rpm pto, wights just over 2000lbs. Takes longer to get to the stump and position than it does to grind the stump. You end up with a foot deep hole and chips. Works great, used on about 400-500 stumps. No longer use it if interested.
