three point top link use?

When pulling a brush hog with a three point hitch you have a situation where you can bind things up on uneven ground with a top link fighting when the wheel on the brush hog goes up or down unless the slot in the brush hog compensates for it.I understand there is an adapter to alleviate this. Jr.

Some had a pivoting top link attachment such as the one in the picture below, you should be able to make one of those. Some people use a chain instead of a top link or just go without a top link. The pivoting adapter does keep the top link which is a stop if the front of the mower caught and caused the rear to rotate up and tip toward the tractor. Do you know the brand of your cutter?

A chain can be dangerous under the right conditions .
I never gave it much thought till I had brush hog come over the top of me. A setup like pictured above works well.

I don't think I've ever seen one without either chain setup or a pivoting top bracket like that shown in the above picture. Most of the older ones I've seen have chains supporting the back like shown here. Most of the newer ones seem to be a pivoting mechanism. Both bush hogs at our Northern farm have the pivoting bracket. The one at our Southern farm has the chains. Can't say that I feel one is better than the other. Both styles serve the same purpose.

A short piece of 5/16 chain with a little wire to make sure it doesn’t fall off works fine to replace the top link.
