throttle grommet

Stopped at NH dealer yesterday for some rake parts and a new throttle grommet for the 4600. Was going to put a little liquid dish soap on it to install, but seem to remember someone here saying to put it in hot (boiling?) water... or was that some other rubber part, like a shifter boot?
Probably should have gotten two, as the throttle on the 7600 is starting to squeak because of wearing through the grommet. But the original is plastic (factory cab model). Get a new plastic one (available, not in stock), or use a rubber one like the open tractors?

Dish soap. The boiling water was suggested for the shifter boot. Dish soap works on it too and is a whole lot easier on your fingers. As for the grommet, I'd have to say suit yourself. Personally, I'd go with what ever is easier to get your hands on. My 640 has a section of rubber tubing that was put there temporarily 20 years ago

it's amazing how many things we patch and figure to getting around to fixing correctly eventually.. and then.. poof.. 10-15-20ys pases and it still holds..

I typically just spit on it and work it over the "ball" on the end of the lever. Soap would be great but I don't keep any over in the barn. A dab of tobacco juice works great.

Used some of the liquid soap I have in the milkhouse. Worked well, even after I managed to drop it on the dirt floor of the shed. Nice to eliminate the lateral movement in the lever - and the rattle.

Glad you got it fixed. Funny how those little things can drive you nuts.
