Throttle return

There are two hand throttles and one foot throttle. The hand throttle located near the steering wheel is connected to the foot throttle and these move at the same time. There is a hand throttle with the backhoe but that works separately.

If you're using the standard throttle system , there should be a spring attached at the bottom the lever then to a hole in the bellhousing . I think John Smith shows it on his website .Your NH dealer has them . I also questioned that until I studied the manual better . A good manual to have is I-T F04 . HTH ! God bless, Ken

On my fords .. they only have a single hand throttle.. and they stay put where you set them.. I have one with a foot and hand throttle, and the throttle minimum is set with the hand throttle.. though you can use the foot throttle to exceede it.. and when you let off the foot throttle.. it goes back to the hand thottle setting.

Most hand throttles that I have seen stay put.. are yo wanting yours to drop to idle after letting off the foot throttle or manually moving the hand throttle up?

Ken.. I don't think a ford N FO-4 manual is gonna do a guy with a ford 3000 / backhoe much good.. except maybee to set his coffee on.

Perhaps an fo-31 maybee?

Check to see if you leave the hand throttle down, if the foot throttle then works as you want it to. most i see, the foot throttle only will drop as low as the hand throttle is set.. IE.. set hand throttle to 1000 rpm, then foot throttle can advance higher. but not lower.. that's how it is on my fords.. etc.

leave hand throttle at idle, and see if foot throttle gives you IDLE and Up when you press / release.

can i assume this is on an 841?

if so, look under the battery.. look at your hand throttle linkage.. it goes to a friction disc.. .. check there to see if the nut holding the disc is loosey goosey.

There should be a foot throttle return spring under the RH running board. If the foot throttle doesn't return after being advanced beyond the hand throttle setting, the problem is between the foot throttle pedal and the bottom of the hand throttle rod (lower right rear corner of the steering box). Find out if the return spring is there, and if so, why the linkage is binding.
You could also check the pivot bolted to the inner surface of the intake manifold, but your symptoms don't match up to problems there.

I found the return spring under the gas pedal. I adjusted it a little and sprayed all the connections with wd-40. Everything works the way it should now. Thanks for the info.
