Sorry about the image quality but, again, this comes from a slide I took back in the early 1980's when I was building and wiring a new control system for these harvesters. Armer were the manufacturing division of the Irish Sugar Corporation and back in the late 1950's and early 1960's they produced a single row, belt lift, tractor mounted machine that fitted on a Fordson Major. Wrights of Dereham, who I worked for, hired a fleet of brand new Majors, Power Majors and Super Majors each year for the beet harvest. They came back at the end of the season and were sold on at a reduced price. Eventually Armer joined with a British Company, John Salmon and built harvesters locally. They were very popular in the abrasive soils of East Anglia because there are few soil engaging parts to wear out. The beet are grabbed by their tops by two belts, the tops are cut off by spinning knives and thrown over the rea of the machine whilst the beet drop into an elevator and then on to the trailer. This is a three row, trailed version and proved to be very fast.
