Fordson Major Repower

This engine has been fitted to a Fordson Major Diesel. When the tractor came out in 1952 the engine was rated at 39hp. The standard back end and gearbox still takes this sort of power and more so it was a bit over-engineered.

Looks like the Perkins 510 or 540 V-8 to me. A 605 and 640 were made too.

I don't ever remember seeing a broken differential on a Major, PMD or SMD, and we had quite a fleet of them, and they were being operated by teenagers.

My dad and grandfather used them to skid logs in their logging business. I am not sure there is anything tougher than a FMD.
