Does anyone have any good ways to put tie down on a unstyled A that wont tear the paint up. I use chains didn't know if anyone has any good ideals. Thanks

We use twisted clevis that goes in one of the cultivator wholes on the frame and a clevis on the drawbar. The one on the rear can be straight. If your at a place that thieves arent a problem you can just back off the binders, take the pin out and drop the clevis, unload the tractor and leave stuff right there and return and drive right back up and be gone in five minutes.

I use old fire hose. Cut it about 6" long and run the chain through it.
Most Fire dept. have old hose that they will give away.

This is the bracket I made for my 620. It is made from 4" X 1/2" flat steel with weld on hooks. Bolted to the bottom of the frame with two 5/8 grade 8 bolts using two existing holes. What I like about this bracket is it is all but out of sight. Some hooks I have seen hang down and I do not like that look. Hope this helps...

I take a few links of chain with the hook and bolt it to the frame in one of the frame holes near the front of the tractor(both sides). Make sure it is long enough to drop past the bottom and won"t ever hurt the paint once tight. Never any problems and no mistake if some one else hauls for you when you are not there to load.

That's a good idea and a nice looking 620.
Having any part of your tie downs outside the rub rail is a DOT no-no. Bring the hooks up inside the rub rail and hook them to the stake pockets.

Guys,
One thing to remember when fabricating hold down points is to mindfull to use items that have the correct markings and meet DOT standards. Up here in the Northeast they are looking for improper chains and connection devices. The Government, always looking for money are busting stones!

On tractors of that size many times I use two clevises. One on the rear of the drawbar and one on the front of the drawbar (drawbar slid forward somewhat). With chains pulling in opposite directions the load is secure and has been approved by some of the local DOT men. Mike

I bought some 18" nylon car axle straps from TSC to wrap around the frame. They have a d ring to connect a chain to them. It doesn't wear the paint off. I use them on the drawbar support also.

My '36 A came to me with short pieces of chain fastened underneath the motor inside the frame to put the binder hooks on. Can't hardly see them at the show.
