Tillage Disc blade question

I have an ancient kewaneee 10 foot transport disc that needs some minor work. On the left and right front gangs, the outer most disc blade on each side are only partially there. I happened to measure a few of the good interior discs and they are 18 inches so I ordered a few, They arrived. Then I measured one of the broken ones and it appears they are 16 inches. I really dont want to return the 18 inch discs. Heres the question- will Putting the new 18 in discs on the outside of each of the left and right gangs make any difference?

Smaller blades on the outside are to help reduce ridging. More important on the back than in the front. I wouldn't worry about it.

I would not want oversize blades on the front outside. To much plowing and making ridges that the back cannot reach to pull in. Put them anyplace else but not front outside.

Put them on Marketplace or Craigslist and order the right ones. They're going to cause the whole gang to ride up and not cut like it should no matter where you put them.

Take the gang(s) apart and put the new blades on the inside, put the worn ones outside. You say the old inner blades are 18"? perfect.Do each side the same to keep it all 'balanced'.

Might as well just get enough to put a full set of 18's in the front minus a couple and use the smaller ones on the outer ens on each side. Then use the biggest of the ones left on the back. Front ones usually wear faster than rears anyway. So rear may be bigger.

It is common to put a smaller, or used wore down, blade on the very outside of each gang so it doesn’t throw quite as much dirt. Or ridge as much. But, this decreases the useful width of your disk.

Most disks are the same size all the way across, and work fine that way.

I would not ever want a bigger blade on the outer side than the rest of the blades. That would put extreme stress on the disk when not in a straight line. Those outer blades like to dig in even on just a curve.

You might want to look at the blades right behind the tractor tires. They often wear a little smaller. Put that blade on the outside, and the new full blade in the tire track. Only a quarter inch difference can be pretty noticeable.

If the new blades are not any bigger than the rest of the blades, it should work fine any which way.
