How do you time an H with a timing light or do you???? I looked in my operators manual and it has some way that I have never heard of doing, and seams like a lot of steps. Has anyone here timed one with a timing light, and how???

Thanks
Steve

no different than timing any other engine. what steps? place timing light wire into #1 plug wire and hook to battery and set timing. run engine very slow so advance dont kick in.

Without the right kind of light, we used to call them set back lights, or the front pulley marked of for at least full advance setting it's hard to time them running. Needs to run real slow and the advance mechanism not advancing to set it correct at the TDC notch. Static time with the engine not running then see if the advance is at least working with the light.

Try it by the manual. If your carb is even close to set up right the tractor will be running in about one turn of the starter. It is pretty simple once you have done it a time or two.

Will the Petronix electronic ignition change time values. I suspect it may change a lil do to parts fitment in relation to old parts.

Run it at wide open throttle, slowly advance distributor until it drops in RPM, retard through peak and until drop, then put it in the middle.

It will be fine.
