Timing a frontmount 8n

I am trying to time a 6volt front mount distributor on my 8n the instructions says place a straight edge on the wide side of the tang,I cannot see the wide side it all looks alike,can someone help? Thanks again

There is a wide side,get a metal ruler,measure the halves,and mark the wide side.Lay the dist. upside down[I scribed a mark 1/4" from the hole].With the dist in the position shown in the manual,rotate the shaft until you can feel the points just touch the cam. You may have to do it a few times to get the feel.You can attach a meter to measure continuity,then when the meter shows the points open,that is the timing point.If the 1/4"mark is the same as the point open,you've got it.If not ,move the plate in the way to make them the same.---lha

The wide side is only about 1/16" wider than the other side so it doesn't LOOK wider but you can tell but feel, looking real close, or by measuring it. I had the same problem at first. Gene

There's usually an arrow head ([b:db768a2c28][color=darkred:db768a2c28][size=14:db768a2c28]^[/size:db768a2c28][/color:db768a2c28][/b:db768a2c28]) cast onto the wide side of the distributor shaft.
