Timing rebuilt engine with electronic ignition...

So I have #1 TDC with the numbers one the flywheel in the view port.

But before I rebuilt the engine I put electronic ignition in it (probably unnecessary since what it really needed was a new block to keep the plugs from getting fouled with antifreeze).

It ran well with the electronic ignition.

But now I am setting the timing and I can't "see" the points close.

Initial installation the timing was good, it was a drop in and start it up.

What do I do to set the static timing?

ore than one way to accomplish it, but since you speak of the flywheel viewing port, that would mean side mount distributor, so myself, I would have the distributor only tight enough that I could still rotate the base with my hand. Then I would try starting it as I moved the distributor a bit toward advance & to retard until I found a point that it would run and once started I would use my timing light to set it correctly.
