I have a 2n front mount and was wondering does the distributor have a timing advance and do they stick my tractor idles fine but once ypu give it a little gas it spits and sputters and i know the gas and carb are good any help would be greatly appreciated

Yep. It sure does.

And the timing can be adjusted as well.

When you pull the distributor to set the points & check the timing, remove the C clip & take the plate out to inspect the advance weights.

If you don't know how to do that, just ask.

thanks for your help im waiting for warmer weather to work on it im new at the tractor thing but do love it i have a couple repaire manuals but they not completeley detaled in parts breakdowns

Unless one of your manuals is the I&T F04 manual,it's not the most helpful. There is a good explaination of the timing procedure in it.---lha

Hi Would you go on and send the advance weights check and repair info. I have a couple of dist that could possibly use that treatment. Thanks Devious

Check to make sure the spark plug wires are in the correct positions at the distributor cap. I have screwed this up on more then one occasion and my front mount will start fine but miss and hesitate when you try to pick up speed or put under load.

I just went and bought that manual and your rite the IT manual is much beter than my other ones I have checked everything and the only thing I could come up with is the fact the timing isnt advancing or possible govenor issues but distributor is easier to check first and thanx again for everybodys help this site is awesome I check it everyday its very helpful now if I can just figure how to spell timing ill be all set LOL

Altho you can't set the timing with a light, you could check to see of the advance mechanism is working. Paint a white dot on the crank pulley so you can see it when the tractor is approaching TDC of #1 cylinder. Use you timing light and observe movement of that dot as you increase the RPMs.

"once ypu give it a little gas it spits and sputters and "........in my experience, this is not the symptoms of a timing/advance problem. How is quality of spark?
