two questions

first what is the length needed to use on a 11.2 x 28 tire? know i cant use the outside diameter of the tire for the calcualation since the outside lengths of the chains actually ride on the sidewalls.

second; are there any chain designs that have the cross chains going straight across that will not fall beteween the lugs on an ag bar tire? don't do a lot of good if they aint making ground contact.

Google DUO chains good for 23 degree ag tires. You can use ladder style chains if you have 45 degree lug tires.

duo grip chains are very good, I have them on both tractors here. I had ladder chains on the Farmall 300 but they weren't quite long enough and they slid down between the bars. I bought the duo grips for it from tirechains dot com and they were much cheaper thna anything locally available and seem to be good quality. Here is the link to their 11.2-28 page. Double ring chains are cheaper, I have never used them myself. I think they are more for field use that on hard surfaces but I could be mixed up.

I have a set of large loop ladder chains that were used on my 11.2x28's. The loops are big enough that if they get between the lugs they still bite. Sometimes referred as "mud chains".
They are for sale. I live in eastern Iowa near Davenport.

Double ring chains are best meant for Mud and Ice but also work great in the field. I have beem using them to haul logs out of the woods.
They are very rough on pavement and will cause you to wanna empty your bladder every few minutes not to mention will chew up your asphalt.

I have 12.4 x 28 tire/rim setup and my chains are 21" wide by (I think) 111" long.

I found this photo, either on this site, or the "other" N Board. (Sorry, I don't remember who posted it.) I saved it to help look for chains for the 11.2x28 tires on my Fergy. Haven't found any yet, will probably check auctions, etc. this spring.

I measured mine for 12.4 x 28 tires at 19" x 118".

Yup...shorter cross chains equal longer overall chain lengths.
