Tire Chains

It's that time of year again. I woke up today to two inches of wet snow. It's probably not going to stick, but it was enough motivation to put the chains on my 8n. These are basic tire chains - no fancy crossed chains or anything. The chains seem to really like being between the lugs, though it seems "intuitively obvious" that they won't do much good there. I've got one side on right now with the chains over the lugs, but I'm not sure they'll stay there. If they end up between the lugs to they do any good at all?

Counting today I've got about 1 hour of experience with chains. :-) The side I've got on went on easy, thanks to tips from you guys in the archives!

Thanks in advance

Joe

you have done well the chains go between the lugs just make sure you have them tight and dont put your hand on the fender (with fingers toward tire while your driving) the chains could remove your fingers for you

I've a set of those "regular' chains on one of my 8N's and have a set of double ring chains on my 861. The double ring chains do much better in snow & ice than the straight chains that spend time between the lugs.

I have found that putting the chains on looser that the chain lays down in front of the tire as it rotates. This gives you a better chance of the link not dropping in the tred gap.
