Tire chains

I'm going to have some snow plowing around here soon.I'm going to need some chains.Any advice on where to get the best value. I have a 1949 8n,tires 11-2-28.Or better yet,if i can make my own from my boneyard? jay

I'd recommend shopping them. Call your local NAPA, Tractor Supply, and local commercial tire shops. May get a good deal through an AGWAY, Southern States, or local Co-Op. Believe it or not, a local forklift or heavy equipment dealer may be a good bet too as they all have access to tire chains from their suppliers.

Where are you located? I have about 4 sets. Shipping is probably prohibitive because of the weight. I would suggest checking into some trucking companies, some semi truckers have many sets that they use for mountain driving, and when they start to wear a bit they buy new ones, but are easy to cobble for a tractor and have a lot of life left. Worth a try.

JAY try the guys at the county road dep thay have them for the road graders. and some time there to woren to use on the roads but are go for use on the farm. i work for the local county and the ones we have are 24" by 14" and we replace them from time to time. hope this helps. thanks Bob
