I got a "46 A with 12.4-38 on it right now. I need new tires for it and was wondering if I can put a 13.6-38 on the same rim or would I need a new rim. My rims are in good shape and would like to still use them but would like to put the largest tire on them as I can. Thanks for any help.

Have you ever PUCKERED your FACE and looked in a MIRROR? That is how your tires will look with 13.6 38,s on 11" rims, side walls SUCKED in. A 46(A) does not have the WEIGHT nor POWER, STOCK, that is to effectively use that size tire. Put 11,s back on it and make it look and preform normally.Just some experience thoughts. 11- 2,s were the origs any way.

I have a B with 13"s on it !! And they are humped up pretty good in the middle. But that thing sure pulls ! at least in the real world and not on the track. I'd not do this on purpose though. I bought it this way.

It actually depends on how wide your rims are now. Can't really measure them well with a tire on. New tires will say right on them what size rims to use. I'd measure it up and go by that since buying new tires put on what is to be there.

Measure the width of your rim...not hard to do- just tape it where the bead fits inside the rim. Any wheel, you can safely go an inch wider or narrower than the rim without looking or acting funny. Your 12.4 tire is actually 11 inches wide at the rim, old size marking. If your rim is 11 inches, you can go to 12...ie-13.6 new size marking.

I have been running 15.5 on 9 inch rims(inside rim measurement) for over 20 years. I chain up in the winter for firewood and snow plowing. Summer... plowing, tilling, culivating a couple acres for myself and some neighbors. Never had a problem, or anyone tell me they are ugly.
Mounted on tractor the tread is sitting at 13.75 inches wide.
I also have 12.4's and 13.6's on my other tractors with the same size rims.
Any questions, please write.

"<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=telcwMLZaLs">Easy</a>" our 46A has 13.6 x 38 rear tires.

Not sure about the width of the rims.

Hope this helps.

We ran 13.6.38 on a 1949 A and it was bone stock head was had never been off and it would spin them all day long in third gear.

If you have pressed steel wheels, JD1253R is 10", JD1260R is 11". I have 13.6 on the 11" rim on my early styled '47 and they look good.
My 2 cents
Doug
