Tires prices

There were messages a couple of weeks ago about the prices of tires. Tip (especially for people in the South and East): I found that my local Farm Bureau sell tires for cars, trucks, tractors, etc. If you are a member ($40.00 a year) you can get them at a big discount. And, if you are an employee or know someone who works for them (my girlfriend) you can get them at cost because they take another 10% off. And they combined an order for me and shipped for free! A Titan 12.4 x 38 cost me under $300. A 5.00 x 15 front cost me $36. Front tube was under $6.00. Rear tube was $30. I had them ship to their nearest dealer and picked em all up last night less than 5 miles from my home.

Pat where did you find the information at? I'm a member in MN- I'd like to check up on this. Can you get any brand or just titans?

I just called my local Farm Bureau and had them fax the book on tires to me and picked em out and called and ordered them. They have Titan and BKT for the front and Rear and also carry BFGoodrich for the rears. And if you go radial, they have Michelins on top of the others brands.

This is good info, I need 5 rear tires and 4 front tires to complete my restorations. Best prices I found so far were from a local tire store. Around $380 each for rears 16.?-34 and 15.5-38, tubes around $70 each, tire removal and mounting around $30 each. It was going to cost me around $2,600 to get all my tires fixed up. The day after I priced them I lost my job so unless I find some very cheap tires somewhere then my A and 60 will be sitting on there rims for the foreseeable future. It’s a real shame after 20+ years to finally get them running again only to put them aside because of tire prices.

Those tire sizes seem much larger than those two tractors had originally -- are you going oversize with them? Size can have a sever effect on pricing, and so I would revisit that one. (PatB)

For the A I have 34” pressed steel wheels from an MT we had years ago. The 38” pressed steel A wheels accidentally got left on the MT when my dad sold it. I figure if I get larger tires for the 34” wheels it will make the A sit closer to level. Both front rims are missing so I figured I’d just get 15” front wheels.

The rim and wheel thing was topic of a long discussion between myself, my dad, and my grandpa. The more we talked the more confused we got. Measuring roughly to the bead width of the rims we found our 4020 has two fairly new good tires on 15” wide rims that have a different lug pattern from the 60 and the 4010. The 4010 has two good old used 15.5-38 tires, one on a 15” rim and the other is on a 13” rim. The 60 has two bad tires, one 15.5-38 on a 13” rim, the other unknown size on a 11” rim. I also found one 15” rim in the barn with no tire.

Best we can tell If I can find two used 15.5-38’s I can put one on the empty 15” rim and put it on the 4010 to get it matched up, then I can have the good 13” tire and rim for the 60, then I only need one more for the other 13” rim for the 60 to get it matched up.

If I can’t find used 15.5-38’s then I’d have to buy two new tires for the 4010, and two new tires for the 60 to get them both matched up and I still got to get two for the A and 4 fronts. So that’s 6 new rear tires and 4 new front tires. Which is what I had planned before loosing my job.

Well, here in GA they don't offer that program anymore....they stopped it about 5 years ago. Anyone know of a Farm Bureau organization in TN, NC, SC that offers that service? I know folks in all states and would pay them to join if I could get tractor tires cheaper!!
