titan tire update

Well I took my tires to 3 different titan dealers and was told the same thing by all.... " Can't do anything about them, but we can sell you some new ones! " One guy actually told me to run them until the tubes are sticking out the side walls. Won't own the tractor long enough for that to happen... Aleast I think I won't.

Sooner or later they will start wondering why they have no repeat business. I will never buy another Titan tire. I will put steel on all my tractors before I do.

I wouldn't be afraid of running them. We've had rear tractor tires with cracks run for 20-30 years. Small fine cracks really won't hurt much, it's just an appearance thing.

We've got Power Mark long bar/shaort bar tires on our Massye 285, 1 with a slit in it's sidewall. Can't see the tube yet but I don't think it's too far away right now. Those tires have been mounted on there since maybe around 85 or so. I was born in 84 so I really can't say as we don't have any records of when they were mounted. I noticed that slit probably 5 yeras ago and can't really say it got much bigger either. Definately full of fine cracks from being in the sun a lot though.

The old Firestone F&R's on our 165 were really cracked too, but what did them in was a gash that my brothers put in it by running over an old disk hiding in the weeds. Ran them for atleast another 5-7 years before the tube played peak-a-boo. it's got titan's on it now and they've got fine cracks too, but we're really not concerned by it.

I wouldnt worry to much about small cracks in the tires.Alot of my tactor tires have small cracks.Just run them until they turn into major splits.But I do agree with you on the Titan tires I dont really care for them.One of my tractors has a Titan tire as a replacement on it from finding a gov goat antler oneday.That tire is about 8 years old full of cracks.And this tire always looses traction before the Firestone F&R on the other side.This will be my last Titan tire Ill purchase Firestones from now on!

10 years ago I thought Titan would catch on that quality sells and junk costs money. They haven't yet so I am beginning to question if the current management ever will.

I have had a lot of titan tires and they were the best I ever had. The Firstone Field And Road tires were the absolute worst, Will never own anouther Firestone Tractor tire and I have told the operators of the Firestone tractor tire testing station that to their faces. Side walls busted between every lug, ended up putting reliners in to keep from cutting the tubes at every break and no traction and would not clean mud out of tread. Now the old style 45* bar that they quit making was a good tire. Running them on 2 seperate tractors working side by side you should tell the difference in the good 45* and the junk 23* Field And Road tire.

OK - I get it we don't like Titan and we don't like Firestone - I never did like their 23 degree stuff - so who do we like? - Goodyear was just bought by Titan and I seem to recall Goodrich is out of the ag business - and everyone has jacked up the prices - some say cost of oil - I say lack of competition - so where do I get tires - India? China?

ACEd-I just got some Goodyear tubes and you are correct, they say right on them that they are made in China. It isn't the soft rubber tube that I am used to, but they feel like a kids blow up toy type of plastic. I used them, but I don't think they will last.

May wallet buys the tires for my tractor(best price) and i use the savings for good tires for the car, now if i drove the tractor on the road at higher speeds i would think differently, maybe i shoudn't
be so dam cheap!

In the 20+ years in the farm tire business we did our absolute best NOT to sell titan tires. We had more problems with corn stalks going thru them, the radials would crack in the sidewalls. The radials were good about 6 years then they had to be replaced. It seemed like they were underengineered. I would sell them if someone ask but I sure hated to because I knew we would be back out to the tractor repairing or replacing them. My opinion buy Firestone, they are the best built farm tires in the US today

I have some Bridgestone tire on the rear of one of my tractors that are 29 years old and in great shape. They have always been out in the sun and only have some fine cracks from drying out; no flex cracks at all. I also have other rigs with Firestones and they have been good tires.

These tires were put on new by the previous owner a little over a year ago. They have had only 12 hours put on them since. Heck you can still read the size that is molded into the face of the lugs. Oh well. Thanks for all of the replies.

I agree. Even though they are now owned by Bridgestone the Firstone tires are the best you can get in my opinion. I run 23 degree field and roads. Some of them are only 4 ply and are 17 years old and look nearly as good as new. They pull good, hold up tp road travel well and are just good tires all the way around. You get what you pay for.
