TO 20 ?'s for adding loader

Has anyone installed a Dearborn 19-21 FE Loader on a TO 20?
I found a loader w/o a bucket and have heard you could put it on a TO 20.
If it makes a difference, it's a 51 model TO.
Are there any tips for the install?
How do I raise the hood if the loader frame comes up to it? will it clear it to open?
I really need a loader, even if it is a trip bucket.
I don't want to part with my TO, but things are piling up around here.

Had the same problem with my TE-20. Finally I bought a second tractor with a loader. I was not willing to cut holes in The TE to access the gas cap. Having 2 tractors is nice

I am resurrecting a '50 TO-20 that will have a Dearborn 19-22 loader with a tip forward grill on the loader with a gas guage on the Fergy and a few other add ons. The fun part was locating a front pulley for the front loader pump.

While we are on the subject – I am about to put things back together and have a question about tapping into the TO20 hydraulics. Currently the line runs from the plug located at the bottom right side directly below the seat. There are two plugs located on each side at the top just below the seat. Would it be ok to use one of these as the source for the loader line? I see in the service manual these plugs are used to test for pressure and I would prefer to start the line at the top rather than the bottom of the frame. This is a trip bucket loader so no return line. Thanks, Jack

Yes you can use any of the plugs for piping up a loader etc. just be careful with the threads in the Pump at the bottom though as the metal is fairly soft and you could strip the threads. The ones at the top present no problem. Don't forget that you will have to prevent the lower lifting links from rising to the top or it will shut the Pump off. Don't attach anything to the Top Link connection when you do this use the long hinged pin for that.....John

It is best to find a front mount pump to operate the loader. Otherwise you have to chain the lift arms down. This means you cannot use the 3pth like for a back blade. I had a loader on a TO30 and just left the hood off because I didnt want to cut it up.

You probably will find that the loader makes steering very difficult and you will have difficulty using your tractor for other chores with the loader installed. And it is also difficult to remove and reinstall, often taking hours to do so. The end result is you eventually will want a separate tractor for loader work, just my opinion.

Todd,

I have a Wagner on my TO20 and I also have a Dearborn 19-21 or 19-22 I do not remeber without looking. The mounts are mostly the same: rear fender mounting locations and the triangle bracket up front. Yes steering is more difficult but not impossible. I use a standard 3 rib front tire. To make sterring easier use a counterweight on the three point. My TO20 has the Wagner and I have a small backhoe mounted in place of the three point. The hoe is about 1000 lbs. and I can easily lift and move about 800 in the bucket and still steer without difficulty. As for the hood. you do not have to cut holes. My hood is designed to lift off. The front section of the hood (with the grill) has been disconnected from the top portion. You have to rig something to stabilize the front section but this is not too hard. Spring latches were added between the front and top sections to hold the top in place. I just have to lift the top portion off. It is cumbersome but not too heavy. Usually I can just lift it up and place it on the arms of the loader, fill the gas, check the H2O and replace.

BTW I have the manuals for the Dearborn 19-21 and 19-22 If you would like a copy send me your email. I am also selling or parting out my Dearborn loader. If you need a bucket let me know. I have some people traveling between my place in Longmont Colorado and near Conroe (Houston) at or near the end of September.
